Abstract

The method of treatment with the medium of odors (aromas) derived from certain plants is called aromatherapy. One of the applications of aromatherapy is by using aromatherapy candles which, if burned, will produce an aroma that can provide a therapeutic effect for humans. In addition, aromatherapy candles can also function as decorators, insect repellents, and fragrances. This community service activity aims to improve the skills of high school students in the field of entrepreneurship through the manufacture of aromatherapy candles. The activity was held on March 2, 2024 at the Al Washliyah Private Madrasah School 29 Binjai City, North Sumatra with a total of 25 participants. The activity consists of several stages, starting from the preparation stage, socialization activities, candle making techniques and product marketing strategies. Students are also provided with an understanding of the benefits of aromatherapy candles for health and relaxation. The results of this activity show that students are able to produce aroma therapy candles with good quality, improve students' practical skills and increase entrepreneurial spirit. This activity is expected to be an inspiration for other schools for the development of entrepreneurship programs.

Abstract

The chemical industry is a vital sector in the global economy that requires careful and planned approaches in designing production facilities. This article discusses the pre-design analysis of a chemical industry focusing on process identification, technology selection, production capacity calculation, capital cost estimation, and environmental impact evaluation. The analysis methods involve the latest techniques in chemical engineering and economic evaluation. The results provide deep insights into the key factors influencing the success of the proposed chemical industry. Emphasis on sustainability and environmental performance is also crucial in the pre-design of modern chemical industries. The conclusion of this study offers a clear perspective on critical aspects to consider in designing an efficient, sustainable, and competitive chemical industry in the increasingly complex industrial era.

Abstract

Green chemistry studies generally include effective concepts and approaches to prevent environmental pollution caused by toxic and hazardous chemical products and processes. Green chemistry based chemistry learning becomes one of the methods that can be used as an approach to prevent pollution caused by chemicals. Laboratory activities attempt to use the principle of green chemistry that can be done by reducing, eliminating or using toxic and hazardous chemicals used in an experiment to reduce levels of pollutants and waste volumes. As educators in the implementation of chemistry learning is expected to have the knowledge, insight, and skills in applying the principles of green chemistry.

Abstract

This study aims to utilize rice washing wastewater as a potential raw material for bioethanol production using enzymatic hydrolysis and fermentation methods. The wastewater is treated with amylase enzyme to break down starch into simple sugars, which are then fermented using yeast to produce ethanol. The research involves optimizing process conditions such as temperature, pH, enzyme concentration, and fermentation time. The results indicate that rice washing wastewater has the potential to be an efficient raw material for bioethanol production. Thus, this study contributes to the development of renewable energy sources and the utilization of agricultural waste to create a more sustainable economic cycle.
