Abstract

Soil is a natural medium that is one aspect of supporting the life of all living things, including plants. Soil chemical properties greatly affect the growth process of oil palm plants, especially in the production process of oil palm fruit bunches. The purpose of this study was to determine the soil's chemical properties in oil palm plantations. The method used in this study is a descriptive method by conducting surveys and laboratory analysis. Soil samples were taken randomly at a depth of 0-20cm at four points of plantation land. Several parameters have been analyzed, such as pH, total N, CEC and exchangeable Al (Al-dd). Soil samples were analyzed at the Laboratory of Soil Research Indonesian Oil Palm Research Institute (PPKS) Medan. Determination of the criteria for assessing soil chemical properties based on the soil fertility standards issued by the Soil Research Center (BPT) Bogor (2009). The results of the analysis showed that the soil pH was slightly acidic, total N was low, CEC was low and Al-dd was very low.

Abstract

The method of treatment with the medium of odors (aromas) derived from certain plants is called aromatherapy. One of the applications of aromatherapy is by using aromatherapy candles which, if burned, will produce an aroma that can provide a therapeutic effect for humans. In addition, aromatherapy candles can also function as decorators, insect repellents, and fragrances. This community service activity aims to improve the skills of high school students in the field of entrepreneurship through the manufacture of aromatherapy candles. The activity was held on March 2, 2024 at the Al Washliyah Private Madrasah School 29 Binjai City, North Sumatra with a total of 25 participants. The activity consists of several stages, starting from the preparation stage, socialization activities, candle making techniques and product marketing strategies. Students are also provided with an understanding of the benefits of aromatherapy candles for health and relaxation. The results of this activity show that students are able to produce aroma therapy candles with good quality, improve students' practical skills and increase entrepreneurial spirit. This activity is expected to be an inspiration for other schools for the development of entrepreneurship programs.

Abstract

The aim of this research was to investigate the influence of catalyst on the flash point, viscosity, density, and iodine value of biodiesel. The raw material used in biodiesel production was waste cooking oil. The transesterification process was employed by reacting the catalyst and methanol, followed by mixing them with the waste cooking oil simultaneously. The catalyst concentration variations used in this study were 0.25% and 0.5%. The resulting transesterification mixture was left to settle for approximately 10 minutes. The biodiesel and glycerol were separated after settling, and the biodiesel was washed with distilled water at a temperature of 50°C and then evaporated at 100°C. The flash point test results for catalyst concentrations of 0.25% and 0.5% were 58°C and 48.5°C, respectively. The viscosity test results for catalyst concentrations of 0.25% and 0.5% were 4.567 x 10-6 m2/s and 4.625 x 10-6 m2/s, respectively. The density test results for catalyst concentrations of 0.25% and 0.5% were 889 kg/m3 and 888.3 kg/m3, respectively. The iodine value test results for catalyst concentrations of 0.25% and 0.5% were 112.2 g I2/100g and 114 g I2/100g, respectively. Based on the test data, the flash point, viscosity, density, and iodine value were obtained. The test results indicated that the flash point values from both experiments did not meet the biodiesel quality standards. However, the viscosity and density test results from both experiments met the biodiesel quality standards and were suitable for use. Regarding the iodine value test, the characteristics of the biodiesel from both experiments did not fully meet the biodiesel standard, although the results obtained were not significantly different from the quality standards set by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources

Abstract

Air bersih adalah air yang kualitasnya sudah memenuhi standar kualitas air yang ditetapkan yang terkadang untuk daerah tertentu sulit diperoleh. Desa Sumber Melati Diski terletak di Kecamatan Sunggal Kabupaten Deli Serdang, dimana hasil observasi menunjukkan bahwa rata-rata air sumur di desa Sumber Melati keruh dan berbau. Hal ini tentu berpengaruh terhadap kesehatan masyarakatnya. Berdasarkan hal tersebut, tim pengabdian kepada masyarakat melakukan sosialisasi dan pelatihan dalam pembuatan saringan air sederhana guna memenuhi kebutuhan air bersih rumah tangga. Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini dilaksanakan pada tanggal 26 Oktober 2024 dengan jumlah peserta sebanyak 24 orang. Kegiatan terdiri dari tahap persiapan, tahap sosialisasi dan pelaksanaan serta tahap evaluasi. Dalam pembuatan alat penyaring air ini digunakan bahan antara lain pasir halus, batu kerikil, zeolite, kapas filter dan arang kayu atau karbon aktif. Hasil dari kegiatan menunjukkan bahwa setelah proses penyaringan, air terlihat lebih jernih dan tidak berbau. Kegiatan ini berhasil meningkatkan pengetahuan para peserta dengan nilai peningkatan rata-rata sebesar 43% serta meningkatkan motivasi peserta untuk menghasilkan saringan air secara berdikari. Dengan adanya alat penyaring air sederhana ini diharapkan dapat menurunkan dampak buruk dari penggunaan air kotor bagi kesehatan.

Abstract

Kadar limbah cair industri tahu harus dikurangi terlebih dahulu sebelum dibuang ke air, yaitu dengan biofilter. Biofilter ini menggunakan tanaman cattail dengan sistem lahan basah Constructed dengan tujuan untuk mengetahui penurunan kadar BOD dan COD limbah cair tahu secara optimum. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan penurunan kadar BOD dan COD limbah cair pada industri tahu dengan variasi waktu tanam terendah terjadi pada hari ke 4 dengan nilai BOD sebesar 640 mg/L (14,6%) dan COD sebesar 1072 mg/L (12,2%), sedangkan penurunan maksimum terjadi pada hari ke 16 masa tinggal dengan nilai BOD 177 mg/L (78%) dan COD 277 mg/L (77,3). Penurunan BOD dan COD limbah cair dengan variasi bobot tanaman cattail terendah terjadi pada bobot 1 kg dengan nilai BOD 400 mg/L (38,2%) dan COD 752 mg/L (39,4%), sedangkan penurunan maksimum terjadi pada bobot cattail. sebesar 4 kg dengan nilai BOD 80 mg/L (87,6%) dan COD 165 mg/L (86,7%).

Abstract

Minyak goreng merupakan salah satu kebutuhan pangan pokok yang dikonsumsi oleh seluruh lapisan masyarakat Indonesia. Minyak goreng merupakan salah satu zat yang penting untuk menjaga kesehatan tubuh manusia. Namun masih banyak minyak goreng yang tidak sesuai SNI dan beredar di pasaran karena kandungan pada minyak goreng tersebut tidak sesuai, salah satunya adalah adanya kontaminasi logam Cd dan Pb pada beberapa minyak goreng. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menguji kualitas minyak goreng pada minyak goreng kemasan. Hasil analisis menunjukkan minyak goreng Salvaco dan Bimoli memenuhi standar SNI 01-3741-2013 dengan rata-rata kandungan timbal (Pb) pada minyak Salvaco sebesar 0,025 dan minyak Bimoli sebesar 0,085. Sedangkan nilai rata-rata kandungan Kadmium (Cd) pada minyak Salvaco sebesar 0,020 dan minyak Bimoli sebesar 0,17.

Abstract

Tanah adalah media alami yang menjadi salah satu aspek penunjang kehidupan seluruh makhluk hidup, termasuk pula pada tanaman. Sifat kimia tanah sangat mempengaruhi proses pertumbuhan tanaman kelapa sawit, khususnya dalam proses produksi tandan buah sawit. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui kriteria sifat kimia tanah di lahan perkebunan kelapa sawit. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode deskriptif dengan melakukan survei dan analisis laboratorium. Sampel tanah diambil secara acak pada kedalaman 0-20cm di empat titik lahan perkebunan. Parameter yang di analisis yaitu pH, N-total, KTK dan Al dapat tukar (Al-dd). Sampel tanah dianalisis di Laboratorium tanah Pusat Penelitian Kelapa Sawit (PPKS) medan. Penentuan kriteria penilaian sifat kimia tanah berpedoman pada standar kesuburan tanah yang dikeluarkan oleh Balai Penelitian Tanah (BPT) Bogor (2009). Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa pH tanah tergolong agak asam, N-total tergolong rendah, KTK tergolong rendah dan Al-dd tergolong sangat rendah. Abstract

Kita Madu business in Binjai is a business that sells pure honey. This activity process aims to help Kita Madu's business in increasing honey sales. Honey sales are carried out not only by selling directly, but also using online sales, namely social media. By utilizing existing social media, you can promote and see consumer enthusiasm for the products being sold. In promoting products, business owners can create their own advertisements by making videos about how to consume honey and providing articles about the benefits of honey for the body. Sales using social media can assess customer satisfaction with testimonials sent by consumers. Based on the results of observations in a month using social media, sales of Kita Madu have increased, because we also have a large number of followers on social media, making it easier to promote Kita Madu.
