This study aims to analyze and measure the effectiveness of the syarhil Qur’an program at LPTQ North Sumatra as a medium of da’wah and its contribution to youth empowerment. The study focuses on the implementation of the syarhil Qur’an program conducted by LPTQ North Sumatra and the responses of experts and participants who have taken part in the syarhil Qur’an competition in the Musabaqah Tilawatil Qur’an (MTQ). This research applies a mixed-method approach, combining qualitative and quantitative research to produce comprehensive findings. Data collection techniques include structured interviews to obtain qualitative data related to program implementation and a questionnaire survey via Google Forms distributed to participants to gather quantitative data on the effectiveness of syarhil Qur’an as a medium of da’wah and youth empowerment. The study’s findings indicate that the implementation of the syarhil Qur’an program at LPTQ North Sumatra is based on two main aspects: planning and management, as well as coaching methods. In terms of planning and management, the program is considered effective due to the presence of a Training Center (TC) and a strong support system. However, the coaching method is still manual-based, making it less effective. Additionally, syarhil Qur’an as a medium of da’wah and youth empowerment is deemed effective in the learning aspect and has received positive public responses. Nevertheless, its impact on youth empowerment has not shown significant progress. Therefore, this study recommends developing more modern and systematic coaching methods to enhance program effectiveness.

This study examines the patriarchal system in Muslim families in Lake Toba, North Sumatra, which is influenced by Batak patrilineal culture and Islamic teachings. As a minority community, Muslim families in this region face strong challenges from the Dalihan Na Tolu tradition that places men as the center of authority. Although Islam emphasizes gender justice and balance, patriarchal practices are still evident in decision-making, role distribution, inheritance rights, and women’s access to public spaces. The objectives of this study are to describe the forms of patriarchy in Muslim families in Lake Toba, analyze Islamic family values based on Quraish Shihab’s Tafsir Al-Lubab, and uncover the potential for creating harmonious families through contextual interpretation of the Qur’an. This study uses a qualitative approach. Primary data were obtained through participant observation, in-depth interviews with eight Muslim families and a religious figure, and a study of Tafsir Al-Lubab as the main source. Secondary data came from academic literature, journals, and Dalihan Na Tolu customary rules. The analysis was conducted using the thematic interpretation method (mauḍūʻī) of QS. al-Nisāʻ [4]: 34, QS. al-Rūm [30]: 21, and QS. al-Nisāʻ [4]: 86 to see how Islam offers solutions to patriarchal practices. The results of the study show that patrilineal customs strengthen male dominance in family leadership, especially in aspects of inheritance and strategic decisions. However, a new dynamic emerges when women play a role in the economy, children’s education, and household decisions. Tafsir Al-Lubab emphasizes that qiwāmah is not domination, but rather a trust based on compassion and justice. The values of mawaddah and raḥmah are the basis of a harmonious, equal, and gender-just family.

Community service activities through the Real Work Lecture (KKN) program aim to make a tangible contribution to society through education and religious guidance, thereby enhancing the knowledge and skills of the community, especially the younger generation, to become individuals who excel both academically and spiritually. This KKN program is in line with one of the main pillars of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education, which is community service. In this program, students are given the opportunity to share knowledge and actively participate in education and the instillation of religion for the generation in Pematang Cengkering Village. The educational and religious activities that have been carried out, such as teaching in elementary schools, mentoring in kindergartens, evening Quran recitation, tutoring, and the Smart Kids Festival, have shown a significant positive impact on the academic development and character of children in Pematang Cengkering Village. These programs not only help students understand their lessons, but also build their self-confidence, strengthen their character, and enhance their spiritual quality, thus shaping a generation that excels in both academic and spiritual aspect.
