Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic has brought various changes to people's lives as well as created stressors in various aspects of life. The mothers with school-aged children could feel quite heavy stress, because at that age the child already has his own desires but does not yet have the autonomy so that the mother must exercise a tight control. This study aims to determine the description of stress in mothers with school-aged children during the COVID-19 pandemic. The research design used was quantitative research with analytical descriptive method. The sampling method was probability sampling with cluster sampling. After analysing the data, the results showed that the general stress variable for mothers was classified as mild with a mean of 0.83 and a standard deviation of 0.77, with a minimum and maximum value of 0 and 5. Meanwhile, specific stress was classified as high, with a mean of 3.95 with a standard deviation. 0.72, and a minimum-maximum value of 1-5. Further analysis showed that the specific stress which appears on mothers is mostly caused by economic difficulties (30.3%) and accompanying children during online school (41.8%). This study is expected to provide an overview for nurses about the stress experienced by school-age mothers and their risk factors.

Abstract

Abstract

Introduction: Sexual communication between parents and adolescents positively impacts the prevention of premarital sexual behaviour. School-based intervention is a promising approach. This review aims to identify school-based interventions that enhance parent-adolescent sexual communication and assess the quality of the studies. Methods: This literature review followed the PRISMA protocol. Four databases—PubMed, ProQuest, Scopus, and Taylor & Francis—were searched using the keywords “adolescent,” “school-based intervention,” and “parent-adolescent communication.” Inclusion criteria were school-based interventions targeting students and evaluating parent-adolescent sexual communication. Studies involving certain medical conditions and LGBTQ groups were excluded. Results: Eight studies were included from 3854 articles. Interventions targeted students from sixth to 11th grade and involved parents. Various methods were used, including lectures, group discussions, role plays, demonstrations, and art-based activities. Some programs were integrated into school subjects, while others utilized technology. Parental involvement was facilitated through assignments that required collaboration between students and their parents. Additionally, several studies organized dedicated sessions or parenting classes for parents. Conclusion: School-based interventions that involve parents and use diverse delivery methods can effectively improve parent-adolescent sexual communication. However, most studies were conducted in the United States, several were over ten years old, and some had limited methodological quality, which may affect the applicability of findings. Schools are recommended to integrate reproductive health content, especially that which fosters parent-adolescent sexual communication, into existing curricula. Additionally, combining student and parent education through joint assignments or organizing parenting classes may enhance the impact of such interventions.

Abstract

Confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the adolescent are unavoidable. There needs to be motivation from adolescent to carry out 3M behavior as an effort to prevent the transmission of COVID-19, especially in the adolescent. Health behavior can be influenced by gender, because in adolescence lend to be active in peer groups of the same gender. So it is important to know the relationship between gender and adolescent behavior in implementing 3M behavior during the COVID-19 pandemic. Aim of this study was to determine the relationship between gender and adolescent motivation in carrying out 3M behavior during the COVID-19 pandemic. This research method was carried out with descriptive correlative design on 427 adolescents in the city of Palembang. The results of statistic test analysis showed that there was a significant relationship between gender and adolescent motivation in implementing 3M behavior during the COVID-19 pandemic with a p value of 0.001 (p < 0.05). These results show that statistically there is a significant difference in motivation scores between male and female adolescents in carrying out 3M behavior during the COVID-19 pandemic. The conclusion is that knowing gender is related to adolescent motivation in implementing 3M behavior, so to increase the effectiveness of the results of health promotion, it is recommended to create a gender-based health promotion program in the aggregate of adolescents.

Abstract

Purpose: Adolescents often lack adequate sexual knowledge, leading to risky behaviors. Traditional sexual health education is usually less effective in enhancing the motivation and engagement of students. Digital gaming interventions offer a promising alternative in the digital era, providing interactive, engaging, and safe learning experiences. This systematic review aims to analyze the effectiveness of digital games in enhancing adolescents’ knowledge and attitudes toward sexual and reproductive health education. Methods: This systematic review followed the PRISMA guidelines and employed the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) critical appraisal. A literature search across ClinicalKey, Cochrane, EBSCO, ScienceDirect, and Scopus identified studies published between 2015 and 2025. The inclusion criteria were original, quantitative studies in English that were freely accessible and focused on digital gaming interventions in adolescent reproductive health. Conventional games or unrelated topics were excluded. Four authors independently screened and reviewed the studies, yielding nine articles for analysis. Results: Nine studies with 6,969 adolescents (aged 11–24) from six countries were included. Digital game interventions significantly improved SRH knowledge and attitudes, with effects ranging from modest (6.27% gain; β = 0.05–0.08) to numerous (η² = 0.80). The small number of studies, design heterogeneity, and cultural differences limit the evidence. Conclusion: Digital gaming intervention improves adolescents’ SRH knowledge and attitudes across contraception, STI prevention, and healthy relationships. However, the limited number of studies, design heterogeneity, and cultural variations restrict generalizability. Future rigorous studies and integration into schools and community programs are recommended. Registered in PROSPERO, ID CRD4202511 68048.
