Abstract

Analysis of the influence of vegetation density levels on the concentration of Total Suspended Solids (TSS) in aquatic areas is crucial in the Pomalaa District, an area characterized by extensive mining activities. This research aims to examine changes in vegetation density conditions and analyze the influence of vegetation density levels on TSS concentrations in the aquatic region. Changes in vegetation density conditions are analyzed through multi-temporal remote sensing image processing using the NDVI method. The TSS concentration is analyzed using the gravimetric method. Meanwhile, the influence of vegetation density level on TSS concentration is analyzed using the Pearson correlation coefficient equation. The results of the research show that there has been an increase in the area with very low levels of vegetation density and a decrease in the area with high levels of vegetation density in the period 2014 to 2023. The calculated results of TSS concentrations at the research location are 78 mg/l to 111 mg/l. The correlation analysis shows that the broader the area with very low vegetation density, the higher the TSS concentration in the aquatic environment. Additionally, the larger the area with high vegetation density, the lower the TSS concentration value of the water at the research locations.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the rapid growth and development of infrastructure and tourism in North Toraja Regency. This has an impact on the closure of green land or vegetation areas and a decrease in environmental quality. Vegetation is a collection of several types of plants that grow together in one place to form a unity where individuals depend on each other. Vegetation has a major influence on all aspects of life, one of which is changes in forest land cover. If the vegetation has a low level of density, it will cause a reduction in forest litter, because there is no longer any part of forest vegetation on the land. Based on this information, it is necessary to conduct research on the level of vegetation density in North Toraja as a reference to see the condition of vegetation density and changes in vegetation density. The Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) and Soil Adjusted Vegetation Index (SAVI) algorithms are applied to Landsat 8 imagery. Then the data is processed using GIS software. Based on the NDVI algorithm, the vegetation density that decreased in the high-medium class was 11,484.32 Ha; high-low 2,718.90 Ha; medium-low 7,107.67 Ha; and there was an increase in the low-medium class of 4,741.15 Ha; low-high 1,090.48 Ha; and medium-high 16,540.27 Ha. Meanwhile, based on the SAVI algorithm, vegetation density decreased in the high-medium class 11,484.31 Ha; high-low 3,791.33 Ha; medium-low 1,121.40 Ha; and there was an increase in the low-medium class 1,428.21 Ha; low-high 2,055.49; and medium-high 2,762.21 Ha.

Abstract

The GNSS survey method is currently widely used for various purposes, both scientific and practical, due to its advantages in terms of accuracy, speed, simplicity, and lower cost. Today, a wide range of GNSS survey instruments are available for benchmark point observations. Therefore, it is necessary to obtain information regarding the accuracy that these different instruments can provide. This study compares the results of benchmark point observations using the same method, namely the static method, but with two different instruments: Spectra SP80 and Comnav T300. The aim of this research is to determine the accuracy level of benchmark observations using the Spectra SP80 and Comnav T300, processed with the Trimble Business Center application. The comparative analysis shows that the Spectra SP80, when processed using Trimble Business Center, produces a smaller average difference in X and Y coordinates compared to the Comnav T300. However, in the Z coordinate, the Comnav T300 shows a smaller average difference than the Spectra SP80. Data analysis from the processing summary images provides information on the precision levels of both instruments. At benchmark point BM 2, the Comnav T300 demonstrated superior horizontal and vertical precision compared to the Spectra SP80. Conversely, at benchmark point BM 5, the Spectra SP80 showed better horizontal and vertical precision than the Comnav T300.
