Abstract

This research identified and described the figurative language found in five selected John Mayer songs with broken heart themes. The method used in this study is a qualitative descriptive method. Based on the analysis, hyperbole dominates in this study. Songwriters use hyperbole in the song lyrics to emphasize to the listeners what the songwriter wanted to say or what he'd done in his life, the writer used hyperbole to represent his feelings and to express what he wants to say. John Mayer''s selected songs contain meanings beyond the sentence or figurative language. 31 sentences use figurative language in the song lyric, hyperbole is the most dominant type of figurative language that appears in this song because it is used to emphasize a situation or condition for special effects. The use of hyperbole is what then makes the pieces very beautiful and meaningful as it is known that hyperbole is used to strengthen the impression by exaggerating, this is what then gives a strong impression on some of the song lyrics.

Abstract

As one aspect of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education, community service activities are an obligation that must be carried out by every lecturer in higher education. English is a universal language because it is used by most countries in the world as the main language. Apart from that, English is an international language that is important to master or learn. The low use of digital media in independent curriculum learning, especially the use of Canva digital content, is influenced by internal and external factors. This activity aims to see whether the Pematang Siantar Family Education High School teachers can use the Canva application well in making Independent Curriculum teaching materials and whether the teachers are satisfied with the training provided by the Service Team. From the results of the training it can be concluded that the Canva application can help teachers in creating teaching materials based on the Independent Curriculum and almost all teachers (90.9%) who received training in using the Canva application were very satisfied with the material they received.

Abstract

TOGA is a home-cultivated plant that is efficacious as a medicine to meet the family's need for medicines. This community service is carried out through the Extended Thematic Field Work Program or KKNTD (Kuliah Kerja Nyata Tematik Diperpanjang), sponsored by Universitas Sumatera Utara. The decision to make the TOGA is following the KKNTD theme in which Sumber Tani Village, Batubara Regency is included in the Green Village Theme. The purpose of this activity is to improve and preserve the Green Open Space in Sumber Tani Village. In this activity, there are two activities namely repairing TOGA in each hamlet and planting medicinal plants. The result of this activity is the formation of TOGA starting from hamlets 1 to 8. Some repairs and replanting have been carried out on TOGA which has been damaged or is no longer growing. This program is expected to help the community's economy by reducing the cost of buying medicine and of course improving people's health as well.
