Abstract

The paper provides a comparison review of the role of PISA (Program for International Student Assessment) and PIRLS (Progress in International Reading Literacy Study) arranged by OECD (Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development) in the development of Indonesian Education System. Based on the criteria outlined in the preliminary examinations, relevant articles were included in this review study. The research methods used for examination were descriptive and content analysis. Specifically, content analysis was employed to analyze studies that focused on the rankings of ASEAN countries as well as the declining score trends of Indonesia in the PISA and PIRLS. As a result, The Tables of ASEAN countries Educational Developments and Comparison are presented. With this study, the role of PISA and PIRLS can be determined and further measurements can be taken by major stakeholders in Indonesian Educational Territory.

Abstract

Previous studies had shown that morphological awareness has an important role in the development of English ESP students' reading skills. However, there is still a gap in studies that specifically focus on the experiences of students in learning English through reading in various educational contexts, especially in traditional Islamic boarding schools. Therefore, this study aims to investigate (1) Students’ experience in learning English through reading in traditional Islamic boarding Schools, (2) the role of morphological awareness in learning to read, and (3) Impact of Morphological awareness on English reading ability. This research is a narrative inquiry study that aims to explore the experiences of three students from traditional Islamic boarding schools who took an English program where their morphological awareness background having an effect on learning English through reading. To collect data researchers use semi-structured interviews. Then, the data were analyzed using thematic analysis. The results of this study indicate that their morphological awareness plays an important role in their journey of learning English through reading, as indicated by their understanding of word forms, functions and structures. By integrating morphological awareness into language education, educators can enhance vocabulary development, improve reading comprehension, foster cross-linguistic transfer, and support language interrelations.

Abstract

Desa Parangjoro, Kecamatan Grogol, Kabupaten Sukoharjo dikenal sebagai salah satu sentra produksi tahu, namun pemanfaatan hasil produksi tahu masih terbatas pada konsumsi sehari-hari tanpa inovasi yang signifikan. Program pelatihan ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan nilai tambah tahu sebagai produk olahan, memberdayakan masyarakat, dan membuka peluang usaha baru. Metode pelaksanaan pelatihan menggunakan metode partisipatif dengan subyek sebanyak 30 orang masyarakart Desa Parangjoro. Pengumpulan data melalui observasi dan wawancara dengan melibatkan beberapa tahapan, yaitu tahap persiapan, pelaksanaan pelatihan, dan evaluasi hasil pelatihan. Hasil pelatihan menunjukkan peningkatan keterampilan dan pendapatan masyarakat Desa Parangjoro. Namun, masyarakat Desa Parangjoro masih membutuhkan pendampingan lebih lanjut terkait upaya peningkatan keterampilan pemasaran digital terhadap produk stick tahu.

Abstract

Mount Prakasak is a protected forest located in Batukuwung village, Padarincang district, Serang Regency, Banten Province which has the potential for geothermal energy to be used as electricity. This study aims to describe the rejection of the Padarincang community who are members of the SAPAR (Syarekat Perjuangan rakyat) alliance movement against the development of geothermal projects. The research method used is descriptive qualitative, with data collection through interviews, observation, and documentation. This research shows that the Padarincang community who are members of the SAPAR alliance reject the construction of geothermal projects because they can damage the preservation of nature. Ecological damage due to geothermal exploration and exploitation activities that damage forests and is feared to cause significant natural damage that affects people's economic activities from the agricultural sector.
