Abstract

Dental health is one of the important aspects in maintaining overall body health. Healthy teeth not only provide aesthetic benefits, but also play a role in the digestion and speech process. Many people still do not understand how important it is to maintain dental and oral health. A common problem in children is dental caries, which can pose a great danger to children's physical, psychological, and social health by causing dental discomfort and subsequent tooth loss, which makes eating, talking, sleeping, and socializing difficult. The role of mothers as parents and teachers at school serves as a key model for the development of children's dental and oral health behaviors. As a result, developing good basic dental and oral health behaviors is essential to establishing dental health standards that will be maintained into adulthood. The purpose of this activity is to improve the knowledge and attitudes of mothers and teachers at Wijayakusuma 01 Elementary School, Grogol Petamburan West Jakarta in maintaining and preserving children's dental and oral health through providing education accompanied by filling out pre- and post-test questionnaires. This activity was carried out by team members from the Bachelor of Dentistry study program, profession, and the Specialist Dentist Education Program of the Faculty of Dentistry, Trisakti University, in the form of counseling on Dental and Oral Health to representatives of mothers and teachers at Wijayakusuma 01 Elementary School, Grogol Petamburan sub-district, West Jakarta.

Abstract

Background: Background: During a pandemic, dental and oral hygiene is often neglected. Lack of knowledge will give rise to new problems related to dental and oral hygiene. Knowledge about dental and oral health for the younger generation and the community is important to be maintained and improved during the pandemic. Objective: Defines an overview of youth student knowledge of oral health during an pandemic. Method: This is a descriptive observational study. Respondents filled out informed consent and questionnaires via Google Forms. This study was conducted by distributing a questionnaire containing 22 oral health questions to 114 adolescent students at Eben Haezer High School. Respondents filled out informed consent and questionnaires via Google Forms. Respondents were classified into good, satisfactory, and poor according to the results of answers to the questionnaire questions. Result: The outcomes of the studies records confirmed that the teenage students of SMA Eben Haezer Manado had poor knowledge (10.53%), sufficient knowledge (34.21%%), and good knowledge(55.26%). Conclusion: Most of the teenage students of Eben Haezer High School in Manado, have good dental and oral health knowledge (55.26%) during the pandemic

Abstract

Background: Dental and oral health is an important thing that must be maintained and cared for as best as possible to avoid the occurrence of diseases in the oral cavity. Knowledge of dental and oral health is very important in supporting behavior to maintain cleanliness and dental and oral health. Mother's knowledge can influence the formation of hygiene and oral health behavior in children, because mothers are people who are very close to children during their growth period and are role models for children. High knowledge will greatly impact a person's behavior in maintaining dental and oral health. Objective: To describe the overview of behavior of mother parents of primary school student about dental and oral health at the Karya Dharma Bhakti II Primary School in Palembang city. Methods: This type of research is descriptive observational research with a cross-sectional design or research design. The sample of this study were all mothers who had children at the Karya Dharma Bhakti II Primary School in Palembang city. This study uses a consecutive sampling technique, a minimum sample of 100 respondents. The data generated from the questionnaire will be collected and processed in the form of a frequency distribution table. Results: Respondents' knowledge of dental and oral health as many as 179 respondents (64%) in good category, attitudes as many as 158 respondents (57%) in good category, and actions as many as 206 respondents (74%) in good category so that the behavior of 234 respondents (84%) in good category. Conclusion: This study shows that the overview of behavior of mother parents of primary school student about dental and oral health at the Karya Dharma Bhakti II Primary School in Palembang city has a good category.

Abstract

Background: The high number of dental and oral health problems in preschool children, such as dental caries, can indirectly interfere with children's development and daily activities. This situation will affect children's Oral-Health Related Quality of Life (OHRQoL) up to his family. Objective: Defines the quality of life related to dental and oral health at Nabilah Kindergarten in Batam City District. Methods: This research is a descriptive observational study with a cross-sectional design to describe the Oral-Health Related Quality of Life at Nabilah Kindergarten in Batam City District. The research was conducted by distributing ECOHIS questionnaire sheets consisting of 13 question items to 79 mothers of Nabilah Kindergarten students in Batam City District. Respondents filled out the informed consent and ECOHIS questionnaire sheets. The assessment of Oral-Health Related Quality of Life in the questionnaire is divided into four categories, namely good, sufficient, bad, and very bad. The score of each respondent's answer is added up and then adjusted based on the score range of the ECOHIS questionnaire. Results: The results showed that Oral-Health Related Quality of Life in the children impact section was in the good category 68.4%, sufficient 29.1%, bad 2.5%. Meanwhile, the family impact section was 58.2% good, 35.4% sufficient, and 6.3% bad. Conclusion: Oral-Health Related Quality of Life at Nabilah Kindergarten in Batam City District tends to be in the good category.
