Abstract

This study aims to explain economic growth in ASEAN countries. The variables that affect the economic growth rate are trade openness, foreign direct investment, and exports. This study uses secondary data from the World Bank and UNCTAD. The data is annual data from 2018-2022. The analytical tool used is the Vector Error Corrections Model (VECM), which uses a unit root test, optimal lag test, cointegration test, and VECM model. The results show that trade openness, FDI, and exports affect economic growth in the short-term analysis, but FDI and exports hurt economic growth. In the long run, the results of this study indicate that trade openness does not affect economic growth. At the same time, FDI significantly affects economic growth in ASEAN countries, and exports do not affect economic growth in 2018- 2022.

Abstract

Research Aims: This study examines the impact of financial indicators—Non-Performing Financing (NPF), Financing to Deposit Ratio (FDR), Capital Adequacy Ratio (CAR), and Operating Expenses to Operating Income (BOPO)—on the Return on Assets (ROA) of Indonesian Islamic banks, aiming to contribute to SDG 8 by enhancing understanding of financial performance factors. Methodology: A quantitative approach is applied using secondary data from Indonesia's Financial Services Authority (OJK) covering 2018–2022. Multiple linear regression analysis identifies significant factors influencing ROA. Research Findings: The study finds that NPF, FDR, CAR, and BOPO all significantly affect ROA. Specifically, while NPF has a positive but insignificant impact, FDR, CAR, and BOPO exhibit negative and significant effects on ROA, suggesting that Islamic banks should focus on credit quality, capital adequacy, and operational efficiency. Theoretical Contribution: This research provides novel insights by exploring the financial ratios' influence on ROA within Indonesian Islamic banks, contributing to the limited literature in this specific area and offering implications for the sector's sustainability in line with SDG 8. Research limitation and implication: The study is limited to secondary data from nine banks over five years. Future research could expand to more banks or explore other performance measures. The findings offer practical implications for improving the financial stability and growth strategies of Islamic banks.

The role of insurance has become crucial in securing the future. It is essential to know where to invest and what the benefits are. Therefore, the insurance system provides a riba-free environment where Shahibul mal invests their money and compensates for losses according to Sharia. This study aims to analyze the influence of service quality, benefits, and location on Shahibul mal's decision to choose Sharia insurance in Indonesia. The research is expected to provide deep insights into the impact of service quality, benefits, and location on Shahibul mal's decision in Indonesia. This study employs a quantitative method with data collection techniques through questionnaires (Google Forms) distributed via social media. The analysis method used is path analysis or Structural Equation Modeling (SEM). The findings of this research indicate that service quality, benefits, and location have a significantly positive influence on Shahibul mal's decision.

Abstract

This study focuses on the ecological footprint as a crucial indicator for assessing the environmental impact of human activities, particularly in the manufacturing sector, household consumption, and agriculture in five ASEAN countries (Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, and the Philippines). The novelty of this study lies in the empirical analysis of the relationship between the ecological footprint and major sectors in ASEAN countries using panel data for 22 years (2000–2022). This study uses panel data regression with moderating variables to test the interaction between independent variables and the ecological footprint. The findings indicate that the manufacturing sector has a significant effect on the ecological footprint. The manufacturing sector can reduce its ecological footprint by implementing energy efficiency technologies and using environmentally friendly raw materials. Meanwhile, household consumption does not have a direct effect, but under specific circumstances, it can affect the ecological footprint, particularly the consumption of goods or services that excessively utilize natural resources and are not readily recyclable. The agricultural sector tends to increase its ecological footprint due to inappropriate practices, such as forest burning for agricultural expansion. The conversion of natural land to agricultural land also increases the levels of hazardous substances such as nitrogen and phosphorus in the soil, which have a significant impact on the ecosystem. The findings of this study provide new insights into effective governance strategies to support sustainable development. This study demonstrates that governance plays a major role in managing ecological footprints, emphasizing the significance of government intervention. The implication of this study is the need for policies that support environmentally friendly practices to reduce ecological footprints in the ASEAN-5 countries.

Abstract

This study analyzes macroeconomic factors that affect the money supply in Indonesia during the period 1993-2022, using the Error Correction Model (ECM). The main objective of this study is to identify macroeconomic variables that are significant in determining the money supply, as well as to understand the short-term and long-term dynamics of these variables. The results of the analysis show that the variables of exchange rate, GDP, government expenditure, and interest rates have a negative effect on the money supply, as is the case with FDI and inflation. Both long-term and short-term actually have a negative impact on the money supply in Indonesia. ECM managed to capture the short-term and long-term relationships between these macroeconomic variables and the money supply. These findings provide important insights for policymakers in formulating effective monetary strategies to manage the money supply and maintain economic stability.
