Abstract

Abstract

The existence of government programs that change the direction of tourism development from mass tourism which is considered to cause degradation of environmental, socio-economic and cultural aspects, to quality tourism, is also a concern for Bali tourism leaders to participate in efforts to change the direction of Bali tourism development through the development of ecotourism. The proof is that many studies/research have been conducted to add new forms of more sustainable tourist destinations in Bali. The study concluded that many villages in Bali have the potential to be developed as ecotourism. The focus of this research is to formulate a hierarchy of criteria for ecotourism development using the AHP (Analytical Hierarchy Process) method. The hierarchy of ecotourism development criteria can be used as an indicator to assess the next ecotourism priority village. This research is a mixed method research, where identification and weighting will be carried out through the Decision Support System (SPPK) with the AHP method. Secondary data collection in the form of research that has been carried out previously and supporting literature related to ecotourism is used to formulate criteria and sub-criteria for ecotourism development. This formulation is used as initial information in the process of weighing ecotourism criteria and sub-criteria. The results showed that there are six ecotourism criteria that can be used in determining priority villages for future ecotourism development including environmental criteria (absolutely more important: 0.281), socio-cultural (0.210), level of community participation (0.168), education (0.166), economy (0.100), and institutional (0.075).

Abstract

All activities that occur in public open spaces are basically forms of human expression as social beings who always have a deep relationship with the environment in meeting physical, psychological and social needs. Referring to mental health, the role of public open space is very important nowadays considering the number of teenagers with mental disorders in Indonesia, especially in Bali is very high. The role of public open spaces in improving the mental health of visitors is needed to reduce the prevalence of depression. The concept of ecotherapy in public open spaces can be implemented to promote mental health through human interaction with green spaces. This study aims to formulate ecotherapy design criteria in public open spaces and find out the design elements of public open spaces in Denpasar City and Klungkung Regency that need to be adjusted to be able to implement the ecotherapy concept. A synthesis of various ecotherapy theories and the link between public open spaces and mental health, as well as various studies or studies that have been conducted previously were carried out to formulate ecotherapy design indicators and sub-indicators in public open spaces. The research method used is mixed methods, by applying qualitative and quantitative approaches. The results of the study concluded that the two public open spaces which are the objects of study need to adjust the accessibility criteria, location, zoning, parking, furniture, facilities, and sign systems.

Abstract

Mental health issues have become a pressing concern in the modern working environment, particularly among public service workers who are exposed to persistent occupational stress. Built environments play a critical role in mitigating psychological strain, and therapeutic architecture offers a promising spatial intervention to address mental well-being. This study investigates the application of therapeutic architectural principles in a public service building, Sewaka Dharma, located in Denpasar, Indonesia. Using the Joint Multivariate Preference (JMP) method, the research evaluates user perceptions across six core dimensions of healing design, sense of personal control, social support, positive distractions, connection to natural views, elimination of environmental stressors, and the ability to engender positive feelings. Data were collected through structured questionnaires distributed to building users, focusing on 26 sub-indicators associated with the aforementioned variables. The results show that five indicators presence of indoor water elements, availability of entertainment facilities, access to natural outdoor views, integration of interactive art, and access to food services scored significantly below the overall mean. These findings highlight specific spatial deficiencies that limit the building’s restorative function and user comfort. The study contributes practical recommendations for public facility improvements by emphasizing evidence-based spatial design strategies that enhance psychological resilience and support mental health in the workplace.

Abstract

This study examines the application of the Salutogenic framework in the architectural design of Bali Provincial Mental Hospital’s Bisma ward, focusing on improving mental health recovery through better environmental design. Using a mixed-methods approach, the research evaluates the ward based on the Sense of Coherence (SOC) components—Manageability, Comprehensibility, and Meaningfulness. The findings reveal that the Manageability component, which emphasizes patient control over their environment, scored the lowest, with seven out of eleven criteria falling below 70%. Key issues include centralized nurse stations, inadequate patient monitoring spaces, and poor accessibility for patients with disabilities. To address these gaps, the study provides recommendations such as decentralizing nurse stations, improving safety features without creating a prison-like atmosphere, and enhancing barrier-free accessibility. While Comprehensibility and Meaningfulness scored higher, there is still room for improvement in reducing spatial uncertainty and fostering meaningful engagement. The study’s design recommendations aim to create a more supportive and empowering environment, aligning with Salutogenic principles to enhance patient recovery.

Abstract

The research that has been conducted has concluded that many villages in Bali are likely to develop into more sustainable ecotourism. One of them is Peliatan Village in Ubud District. Based on the synthesis of ecotourism theories, there are six criteria for ecotourism development, including environmental, community participation, education, economics, socio-cultural, and institutional. The first focus of this research is to find out the importance of community participation as a criterion for ecotourism development. The second is to understand the degree of participation of the Peliatan village community in the development of ecotourism. This research is a mixed-method research, adopting AHP (Analytical Hierarchy Process) methods to form a hierarchical structure of ecotourism development criteria, in order to understand the priority of community participation as an ecotourism standard. The results show that the criterion of community participation ranks third (slightly more important, with a weight of 0.168) after the environmental standard (weight 0.281) and social culture (0.210). Residents of Peliatan Village participate in each of the activities in their village (planning, development, management, monitoring/evaluation), which plays a very important role in the development of Peliatan Village's ecotourism.
