Abstract

This research focuses on Indonesia's influential position in ASEAN and its image, considering both strengths and weaknesses. Despite being known for natural beauty and cultural richness, the country faces challenges that affect how it is perceived globally. The study examines the ASEAN Youth Interfaith Camp (AYIC) as a public diplomacy tool aimed at enhancing Indonesia's image. Through qualitative research, using official documents and interviews, the study explores how AYIC contributes to projecting Indonesia as a tolerant and harmonious nation. The research sheds light on the program's success in dispelling religious stereotypes, ultimately improving Indonesia's international image and advancing its national interests through soft power.

The purpose of this study to analyze the stored ideas so that not simply forgotten and left as archives, so that they benefit the world. This study uses a qualitative method. The analysis was carried out by interpreting the data based on the literature study. Data were collected from primary data and secondary data. Primary data was obtained from interviews, and secondary data from previous reference journals, books, and news from internet sources. This study concludes, Pancasila can become an international reference. With the designation of Bung Karno’s speech entitled “To Build the World Anew” as Memory of the World, it became easier for the international public to access the text archive of the speech as a reference for developing studies. This is because the text of the speech is open for use by researchers, academics and international practitioners in studying Pancasila as a philosophical and political discipline, whose values are very relevant for mediating socio-cultural conflicts.

Abstract

The South China Sea conflict has always been an issue in international affairs. China's unilateral claim to the nine-dash line in the waters of the South China Sea has created various dynamics. The polemics come both from countries that directly intersect with the South China Sea, or from countries that are far from the waters of the South China Sea like the United States. The foreign policy of the United States in intervening in the South China Sea conflict is inseparable from its national interests.

Abstract

Relations between inter-Korean have worsened as tensions from the DPRK nuclear crisis have continued to escalate. Amidst the existing tensions, some of the Republic of Korea regimes have taken a humanist approach in dealing with the DPRK, which has resulted in improving relations between both countries. The author uses Samuel P. Huntington's political order theory to explore a stable and effective political system in managing conflict and making decisions. This study uses qualitative methods with secondary sources from journals, books, reports, official documents, and official websites. The results of this study indicate that the humanist approach is more effective in dealing with the DPRK through meetings held by the leaders of the two countries to build cooperative relations such as the construction of the Kaesong Industrial Complex, economic aid worth hundreds of billions of Won to prevent North Korea's nuclear development, and dialogue conducted through state meetings. In addition, policies made by the Republic of Korea, such as the Sunshine Policy, are able to embrace the DPRK and prioritize dialogue when the DPRK violates the agreement in cooperation without unilaterally terminating the cooperative relationship as was done by the Lee Myung-bak and Park Geun-hye regimes with their conservative approaches. Political institutions also play an important role in making foreign policies that have an impact on the security stability of the Republic of Korea.

Abstract

This study analyzes the Philippines' foreign policy in the South China Sea dispute during the Ferdinand Marcos Jr. era using the Rational Model. The results show a significant transformation of the Rodrigo Duterte era to a concordance strategy with the United States during the Marcos Jr. era. The failure of Duterte's pro-China approach, which actually increased the aggressiveness of the Chinese Coast Guard and did not provide the expected concessions, became a policy lesson for the Marcos Jr. administration. The concordance strategy was shown through the expansion of the Enhanced Defense Cooperation Agreement, the intensification of military exercises, the modernization of military capabilities, the institutionalization of intelligence sharing, and active participation in multilateral forums. This qualitative research, with data triangulation, reveals that the Philippines' chosen strategy reflects a rational calculation that aligning with the United States provides greater benefits for securing maritime sovereignty and regional stability than confronting China.

Abstract

Japan's policy of releasing treated water from the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant has sparked a global debate over its environmental safety and legitimacy. This issue is not only about the technical aspects of radioactive waste management but also reflects the dynamics of the relationship between science, politics, and international belief. This study aims to analyze the role of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in supervising and verifying Japanese policies through the framework of institutional neoliberalism and the classification of the role of international organizations according to Clive Archer. Using a qualitative approach based on an analysis of official documents, IAEA submissions, and related stakeholder responses, the study found that the IAEA plays a role in three main categories: as an instrument, Japan uses the IAEA to gain scientific legitimacy; as an arena, this organization becomes a space for diplomacy between international actors and the exchange of technical information; and as an actor, the IAEA demonstrates autonomous capacity through the establishment of scientific safety standards and the production of global legitimacy. Although the IAEA report guarantees the safety of the Fukushima wastewater release, the responses of China, South Korea, and Pacific nations reflect a disconnect between scientific and moral legitimacy. Thus, this study confirms that the success of international organizations such as the IAEA depends on their ability to build cross-border trust and sensitivity to global values.
