Abstract

Background: The global smoking prevalence from 2007 to 2021 decreased from 22.7% to 17%.  However, in some countries, the prevalence has not changed or even increased.  Indonesia is the third largest country in cigarette consumption. Data shows about 58 million male smokers and 3.5 million female smokers smoke every day.  Many tobacco control efforts have been made, including efforts to increase cigarette excise taxes. In the process, there are advocacy efforts included in the health promotion strategy according to WHO in the Ottawa Charter. However, a complete review of the process and results of advocacy is still lacking, even though it can be used to evaluate the implementation of advocacy for future excise tax increases. Aims: This research aims to review the process and results of advocacy as a health promotion strategy in tobacco control. Methods: This research involves CISDI (Center for Indonesia’s Strategic Development Initiatives). The method used was Focus Group Discussion with CISDI and secondary data from political mapping in assessing advocacy results. Results: Advocacy of the excise tax increase policy carried out by CISDI received support from officials or the public amounting to 70.2% and only 23.6% disagreed. Conclusion: Health promotion strategies through advocacy can increase awareness and support from policy makers quite effectively. Tobacco control through increasing tobacco taxes can be carried out if all parties encourage the government to make policies. However, in reality, an increase in tobacco taxes alone cannot reduce cigarette consumption in the community.

Abstract

Background: Adolescent engagement in risky sexual behaviors, such as early sexual initiation, presents a pressing global public health concern that impacts adolescents’ physical and mental health and may influence their prospects. These behaviors increase risks of HIV/AIDS, other sexually transmitted infections, and unintended pregnancies, which can limit opportunities and affect life trajectories. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), adolescents represent around 20% of the global population, with the majority living in developing nations where resources for education and prevention are often limited. Data from Indonesia’s National Population and Family Planning Board (BKKBN) highlights this challenge, with 60% of adolescents aged 16–17, 20% aged 14–15, and 20% aged 19–20 reporting sexual activity. Objectives: This systematic review investigates the effectiveness of edutainment—a strategy combining education with entertainment—in reducing risky sexual behaviors among adolescents by preventing HIV/AIDS and promoting informed decision-making. Methods: Literature from 2014–2024 was gathered using Proquest, Google Scholar, PubMed, Elsevier, and Web of Science, with keywords including "edutainment," "prevention of casual sex," "adolescent sex education," and "sex education programs. Results: Findings indicate that edutainment approaches—utilizing interactive play and educational activities—effectively enhance adolescent and parental awareness of the risks associated with free sex and strengthen adolescent skills in self-protection and resisting inappropriate advances. Conclusion: The edutainment-based intervention model is a promising strategy for preventing risky sexual behaviors among adolescents, promoting health-conscious decision-making, and fostering protective skills.

Abstract

Gaming disorder is often found among children and adolescents. This disorder of self-control over games that cause addiction is defined by WHO as a behavioral disorder. Risk factors for gaming disorder come from internal factors and external factors. One of the significant external risk factors is parents' parenting style towards their children. Objective: To explored and analyze external risk factors for gaming disorders in adolescents related to parental parenting patterns. Methods: The research method used is qualitative with a phenomenological approach using purposive and in-depth interview techniques. There were 12 informants, 8 of whom were primary informants and 4 of whom were key informants. The main informant was an adolescent mobile legends game player in Surabaya who was diagnosed with gaming disorder based on the results of a preliminary study using the gaming disorder instrument from the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5). Results: parenting patterns at risk are parenting patterns that pamper children, parenting patterns that lack control over parents, and parenting patterns that are indifferent and harsh. Conclusion: Ineffective parenting has an impact on teenagers' self-control, which has the potential to cause teenagers to fall into gaming addiction or gaming disorder. Keywords:  adolescents, gaming disorder, parenting style
