Abstract

Literary texts contain complex literary information. Types of literary information are subjective information and objective information. In translating that aforesaid information, there are some obstacles both objective and objective obstacles. Therefore, translating literary works requires proper strategy. This paper examines certain strategies used by the students to render literary information in the process of first-drafting literary text translation. The data in this study are 27 prospective literary pieces of information expressing knowledge about culture, morality, and humanities carried out by the text of Wuthering Heights Chapter 1 by Emily Bronte that has been firstly translated from English to Indonesian by learners joining translation class. The method used in this study is a qualitative one. By adopting the literary translation strategy promoted by Kazakova (2015), the result of this study shows that most students tend to use helper-strategy to compensate for the peculiar information with more neutral equivalent terms in the target language although somehow, they are trapped in unbiased strategy for making the translation product more natural in general.

Abstract

This study examines the characteristics of main characters of John Steinbeck's work "The Pearl" through the theory of Erik Erikson's psychosocial growth phases. It investigates how the characters navigate these stages against the backdrop of societal forces and personal goals. As the characters discover a precious pearl, their journey mirrors Erikson's stages, from trust to mistrust to integrity to despair. Each stage is characterized by conflicts and obstacles that develop characters’ personalities and interactions. This study uses qualitative analysis to explore the significant psychosocial processes represented in "The Pearl," resulting insights into psychosocial characters’ development and the complexity of their progress in a social context.

Abstract

This research explores the pervasive impact of learned helplessness on various aspects of Kathy H.’s life in Kazuo Ishiguro’s Never Let Me Go, particularly focusing on her role as an organ donor and her interpersonal relationships. Employing close reading and library research methods, the study engages with Boddez et al.’s (2022) framework of learned helplessness to analyze how dystopian structures intensify psychological resignation and foster passive acceptance of fate. The novel reveals how Kathy H., a clone conditioned for organ donation, internalizes powerlessness in the face of inescapable circumstances. Her emotional experience marked by detachment, burnout, and chronic emotional fatigue reflect the broader psychological toll of living within a system that denies autonomy and agency. The illusion of protection within the educational institution and the characters’ limited control over their lives illustrate how systemic control cultivates helplessness. This study argues that the normalization of powerlessness within such a dystopian context leads Kathy to quietly embrace her predetermined function, shedding light on the insidious effects of institutionalized control on self-perception and agency. Ultimately, the analysis offers a nuanced understanding of how helplessness is generalized beyond singular experiences to shape one’s entire psychological landscape in oppressive systems.

Abstract

Abstract

This study analyzes how the story reveals hidden systems of control. It shows how modern economic system trick people into thinking they're making free choices, when they're actually being manipulated. The method in this research is using close reading approach as well as the triadic form of construction-deconstruction-reconstruction, it work by establishing themes and binary oppositions in a story first, then deconstruct it by flipping the binary oppositions, and then reconstruct it by creating a new interpretation of the story based from deconstructed binary oppositions and themes. The triadic analysis uncovers contradictions, where Pandora's myth attributes evil to divine forces, Matheson's story attributes it to a systems that tempt and make Norma, the main character, into thinking that she got a free will over her choice. This research concludes that Norma thinks she's making a real choice, just like Pandora gave in to curiosity. But the shocking ending shows she was never really in control, the system had already decided her fate. This exposes how those in power fake 'freedom' to keep people under their thumb.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Digital technology, dominated by artificial intelligence applications (AI Apps), has become an important element in the learning process in the world of education. The lack of access for teachers to professional development activities, such as in-house training, workshops, seminars/webinars, is a major factor behind the low level of digital literacy and competence among teachers. To bridge the digital competency gap experienced by teachers, this outreach activity was conducted using an active participation method. The results of the activity showed that it provided teachers with an understanding of AI concepts and their application in education. Additionally, teachers gained practical skills in using various AI-based learning applications for pedagogical purposes. Keywords: Teachers, artificial intelligence, technology   ABSTRAK Teknologi digital yang didominasi teknologi kecerdasan buatan (Artificial Intelligence Applications - AI Apps) di dunia pendidikan menjadi elemen penting dalam proses pembelajaran.
