Abstract

Duck meat is a source of animal protein. Duck meat is widely used in various food preparations. The aim of this research was to determine the effect of giving pineapple juice on the physical and chemical quality of duck meat. The experimental design used complete randomization with four treatments and three replications. The treatments applied were : P0 : duck meat (without the additional of pineapple juice), P1 : duck meat + 25% pineapple juice, P2 : duck meat + 50% pineapple juice, P3 : duck meat + 75% pineapple juice. The data obtained was analysed using analysis of variance (ANOVA) and continued with wether three was a real influence. The variables observed include physical (pH) and chemical quality (water content, protein content and fat content). The result showed that giving pineapple juice to duck meat had a significant effect (P<0,05) on the quality of pH and water content, but thre was no significant difference (P>0,05) on protein and fat content of duck meat. Providing pineapple juice up to 50% can reduce the pH and water content, while up to 75% it has no effect on the protein and fat of duck meat.

Abstract

The coastal area is the border area between land and sea. Coastal areas are areas close to the sea characterized by flat areas and sandy soil composed of various kinds of ecosystems such as mangrove trees. The mangrove ecosystem is a community of tropical and sub- tropical coastal vegetation and is able to grow and develop in muddy coastal tidal areas. Mangrove trees have an important role for the environment, especially the life of flora and fauna in areas around the coast. Apart from that, mangrove trees are able to prevent abrasion and function as wave barriers. The area that has mangrove forests and is quite susceptible to abrasion is Keraya Village, Kumai District, West Kotawaringin Regency as a planting location. This activity aims to increase awareness and open insight into the importance of preserving the environment around the coast by planting mangrove trees. Through community service activities, participants can have awareness and are expected to develop a sense of love for the environment.

Abstract

Laying hens are used as an option in raising livestock because it is felt that the chicken can produce eggs in sufficient quantities in a fast time. The first egg is produced at the age of 6 months and will continue to produce eggs until it reaches 2 years old. With a total egg production between 250 to 280 eggs per year. Proper management in laying hens farming is crucial to achieve maximum production results. This community service activity is an educational mentoring program aimed at the younger generation to increase their knowledge and understanding of laying hen farming, starting from chick management, feed and drinking water management, housing, disease control, and egg handling. The activity took place at the Pialun poultry farm in Mendawai Village, West Kotawaringin Regency, with 7 participants. The implementation method began with a socialization session on laying hen farming in the first session, followed by the second session, which involved interviews with field assistants regarding management practices and skills in laying hen farming.

Abstract

Pembelajaran berbasis teori dalam pendidikan kurang memberikan pemahaman yang aplikatif kepada mahasiswa. Kelemahan utama dari pendekatan ini karena kurangnya keterlibatan langsung mahasiswa dalam kegiatan di lapangan. Pembelajaran kontekstual merupakan pendekatan yang mengintegrasikan materi pembelajaran dengan pengalaman di lapangan. Kegiatan ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kompetensi teknis dan melatih kemampuan manajerial dalam manajemen itik pedaging di lapangan. Kabupaten Kotawaringin Barat dipilih sebagai lokasi kegiatan karena memiliki potensi peternakan itik yang masih dapat dikembangkan. Adapun Metode yang digunakan dalam pembelajaran kontekstual meliputi sosialisasi materi, praktek lapangan, serta teknik evaluasi. Evaluasi dilakukan melalui pre-test yang dilakukan sebelum kegiatan dan post-test dilakukan setelah kegiatan, untuk mengukur peningkatan kapasitas pemahaman mahasiswa dalam pembelajaran kontekstual. Hasil ini menunjukkan bahwa terdapat peningkatan pada nilai post-test dibandingkan dengan nilai pre-test, yaitu sebesar 43,83% yang termasuk ke dalam kategori tinggi. Kegiatan pembelajaran secara kontekstual sangat efektif dalam meningkatkan pengetahuan dan keterampilan mahasiswa sebagai salah satu langkah strategis dalam meningkatkan kualitas pendidikan.
