Abstract

Anemia is a significant global health issue, particularly among adolescent girls who are in a phase of rapid growth and undergoing physiological changes such as menstruation. Adolescence is a critical period in an individual's life, during which the need for iron increases to support growth, cognitive development, and red blood cell production. The prevalence of anemia among adolescent girls is a major concern as it can impact on long-term health, academic performance, and quality of life. Therefore, the description of anemia incidence in adolescent girls is crucial to inform effective intervention strategies and prevent further complications. Objective: To determine the incidence of anemia among adolescent girls. Method: This research is a descriptive study with a cross-sectional approach. A total of 87 adolescent girls who met the inclusion criteria participated in the study. Results: 21.8% of the adolescent girls were experienced anemia. Conclusion: Anemia cases among adolescent girls are still found in Indramayu Regency

Abstract

The development of environmentally friendly materials such as bioplastics is a solution to reduce the negative impact of conventional plastics on the environment. This study presents a novel approach by utilizing hemicellulose extracted from rice straw and husks—abundant agricultural waste materials—as the main raw materials for bioplastic production. Hemicellulose was extracted using the alkalization method, and its characterization was carried out through FTIR analysis to identify typical polysaccharide functional groups. The results of the analysis showed the presence of O-H, C-H, and C-O-C groups, which indicate the glycosidic structure of hemicellulose, as well as indications of residual lignin with C=C groups. The resulting hemicellulose was then processed into bioplastics with the addition of plasticizers and reinforcing materials, incorporating glycerin, CMC, and TiO₂ to enhance mechanical properties and biodegradability. Mechanical and degradation tests demonstrated superior performance, highlighting the synergy between these additives. This study provides an innovative strategy for transforming agricultural waste into high-value bioplastics, contributing to sustainability and advancing green material technology.

Abstract

The development of environmentally friendly materials is crucial to mitigate the environmental impact of conventional plastics. This study focuses on developing bioplastics using rice straw and rice husks, combined with glycerine, carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC), and titanium dioxide (TiO₂). Glycerine acts as a plasticizer to enhance flexibility, CMC functions as a matrix binder, and TiO₂ serves as a reinforcing agent to improve mechanical strength. Bioplastics were produced using the casting method with specific proportions of these materials. Characterization tests included scanning electron microscopy (SEM) for morphology, biodegradability tests, water absorption analysis, and tensile strength measurements. Results revealed that the combination of rice straw and rice husks produced bioplastics with varied morphologies. TiO₂ enhanced mechanical strength and material homogeneity, though its distribution requires further optimization. Glycerine significantly increased flexibility, while CMC improved matrix cohesion. The novelty of this research lies in the integration of agro-industrial waste—rice straw and rice husks—with TiO₂, glycerine, and CMC, creating bioplastics that balance biodegradability, mechanical properties, and flexibility. This innovative approach demonstrates the potential of utilizing agricultural byproducts to produce sustainable alternatives to conventional plastics, offering customizable properties for diverse applications.

Abstract

Abstract

Preschool-aged children are vulnerable to experiencing anxiety and fear toward hospital environments and medical personnel, which can negatively affect their healthcare experiences. This community service program aimed to educate preschool children using an atraumatic care approach through professional orientation activities and a mini hospital tour. The activity was conducted at TK Pembina Indramayu, involving 69 children aged 4–6 years. The methods used included interactive education, role-playing, and a fun simulation of a hospital environment. Pre-test results showed that most children were afraid of doctors and medical tools. However, post-test results indicated a significant decrease in these fears and an increased enthusiasm for learning about medical professions and health equipment. This program proved effective in shaping positive early experiences toward healthcare and can serve as an applicable preventive educational model based on atraumatic care for early childhood education institutions.

Abstract

Anemia is one of public health issue affecting female adolescent nationally and globally, particularly in female adolescents. Female adolescent who are experiencing anemia may have serious implication for physical growth, future reproductive health, and cognitive function. Previous studies reveal a lack of knowledge of anemia among this vulnerable population. Therefore, the analysis of knowledge levels related anemia in female adolescents is important to inform effective intervention strategies and prevent further complications. Objective: To investigate the analysis of knowledge related anemia among female adolescents. Method: A cross-sectional approach with purposive sampling and structured questions with validity 0.468 and reliability 0.960. A sum of 105 female adolescents who met the inclusion criteria participated in the study. Results: 53,3% of the female adolescents were found has poor knowledge related anemia with mean age of participants was 16 years old. Conclusion: A proportion of female adolescents exhibit less knowledge related anemia, therefore, it is necessary to develop interactive educational media and health promotion regarding anemia by the school and district health authorities
