Abstract

The purpose of this study is to explore the way legal protection is provided to consumers when they experience losses as a result of the actions of business actors and also to examine the types of protection obtained by consumers in buying and selling transactions through e-commerce. This research uses normative legal methods with statutory and conceptual approaches to critically assess legal norms related to norm vacuum. The results of this study show that legal protection of consumers in electronic transactions is very important, where this is an effort to ensure there is legal certainty that can provide protection to consumers. Although the Consumer Protection Law, the Electronic Information and Transaction Law, and Article 49 of Government Regulation Number 82 of 2012 have regulated consumer rights and obligations, the reality is that they still do not fully protect consumers in buying and selling transactions through e-commerce. This is due to the development of science and technology that has not been accompanied by the development of laws that govern it.
