Abstract

Nutrition has an important role during the growth and development of children in general, especially in the oral cavity. Children who are malnourished can cause abnormalities in the hard tissue of the teeth and periodontal. Abnormalities in the oral cavity can disrupt masticatory function, which can affect food intake. Parental knowledge is important in choosing food for the family, because it can affect the nutritional status of children and their families. This Community Service (PkM) were attended by 36 participants from the PKK mobilization team, Cideng, Central Jakarta. The materials provided are the effect of balanced nutrition on general health, the effect of nutrition on the tooth supporting tissue, the impact and prevention of poor dental health and good oral health care in power points, videos and posters. The results of the PkM training were evaluated by a pre-post test using a google form. The evaluation results showed an increase in participants' knowledge scores from an average pre-test score of 45.78 to an average post-test score of 82.19. Abstract

Background: In 2018, Indonesian Baseline Health Research stated that the prevalence of dental caries in Indonesia is 88.8%, which indicates that it has the highest prevalence of oral and dental health issues in Indonesia If left untreated dental caries can cause issues that negatively affect someone’s quality of life. Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, dentist appointments have been on a decline, due to fear of contracting COVID-19. Furthermore, PDGI have released a circular letter that urges direct dentist practice to be done only in emergency and advised dentists to give dental health service through teledentistry instead. This is supported by the regulation implemented by the Indonesian Medical Council and the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia regarding the use of telemedicine. Objective: The purpose of this research is to determine if the usage of teledentistry is effective in screening dental caries. Methods: The Scoping Review method on this research is systematically done in accordance with the PRISMA guidelines and uses the data basis of Google Scholar. Result: There are six journals included on this research, and each of them studied the use of teledentistry to screen dental caries. Conclusion: The research found that during the COVID-19 pandemic, early examination can be done with teledentistry which is proven effective in screening dental caries before patients are given further treatment by dentists, despite the limitations.

Abstract

Background: Oral and dental health is an important aspect of body health that is often neglected. Many research data show that the level of awareness and optimal oral and dental health practices still need to be improved. This improvement requires oral and dental health education with more interesting methods and can involve active participation from the audience. Objective: to assess an overview of Family Welfare and Empowerment Organization knowledge regarding dental and oral health before and after education using interactive media. Methods: This study was a quasi experimental study with a pre-test – post-test conducted on PKK women in Palu, Sulawesi Tengah. The PKK women knowledge was measured by filling out the questionnaire, which has been tested for its validity and reliability using the Pearson product moment correlation and Cronbach Alpha, then the questionnaires were distributed directly. Results: An assessment involving 91 respondents demonstrated a consistent upward trend in dental and oral health knowledge among most PKK women, observed prior to counseling and sustained at 15-day and 30-day post-intervention intervals. Conclusion: This study shows that most PKK women experienced increased knowledge about maintaining oral health. PKK women need to be more active in providing information related to oral health and are expected to practice it daily for themselves and their families. Interactive educational media is an effective tool for oral health education and increasing knowledge, especially among community groups such as PKK women. These findings support its broader implementation in public health programs to address preventable oral health problems.
