Abstract

The prevalence of hypertension highlights the need for patients to manage their blood pressure independently, which is linked to health literacy. However, the relationship between self-care management and health literacy requires empirical validation. This study investigates the correlation between health literacy and self-care management among hypertensive patients at public health facilities. The study used a cross-sectional design involving 81 hypertensive patients aged 18 and older, sampled from a health centre in Bandung Regency, Indonesia. Health literacy was assessed using a hypertension health literacy scale, and self-care management was evaluated with a 40-item questionnaire. Kendall's Tau b was used for inferential analysis to examine the relationship between health literacy and self-care management. The findings indicated a significant correlation between health literacy and self-care management (t = 0.342; p < 0.05), showing that individuals with higher health literacy manage their hypertension more effectively and achieve better blood pressure control. These results pertain only to a specific population, suggesting further research on health literacy and self-care management among hypertensive patients in various health facilities

Abstract

Anemia is one of the problems in adolescents in Indonesia, especially female adolescents. One of the causes of female adolescents experiencing anemia is due to menstruation. The purpose of this community service activity is to determine the level of knowledge of female adolescents regarding anemia and hemoglobin (Hb) values. The method in the community service activity is to provide education about anemia and adequate nutrition, pretest-posttest, and blood hemoglobin examination. The media used for education is video and knowledge measurement with a knowledge instrument. This activity was carried out at the Madrasah Tsanawiyah Tegalanjang. The number of female students is 17 students. The results of the activity showed that 88.24% of female adolescents had good knowledge after being given education. The average hemoglobin level of female adolescents is 14.29 g/dl. In conclusion, providing education through video media can increase changes in the level of knowledge for female adolescents at Tegalpanjang Middle School. This activity needs to be continuously coordinated with the Tegalpanjang Health Center as a follow-up to ongoing activities such as routine provision of blood-boosting tablets and the formation of peer groups.

Abstract

Abstract

This study aimed to investigate the relationship between self-efficacy and fluid overload in patients undergoing hemodialysis. The study included 96 adult patients receiving regular hemodialysis at a private hospital in Bandung, Indonesia. Self-efficacy in fluid restriction was assessed using a validated 20-item questionnaire based on Bandura’s model. Overhydration was measured using the Interdialytic Weight Gain (IDWG) index. Descriptive and inferential analyses were performed, including Kendall’s Tau-b correlation test. The study revealed that 60.4% of participants had low self-efficacy, while 66.7% were classified as overhydrated. A statistically significant inverse relationship was found between self-efficacy and fluid overload (p = 0.002), suggesting that patients with lower self-efficacy were more likely to experience overhydration. Self-efficacy plays a critical role in fluid management among patients receiving hemodialysis. Strengthening self-efficacy through nurse-led behavioral interventions, standardized patient education, and digital health monitoring may enhance fluid adherence.
