Abstract

Abstract

Researchers were interested in studying the impact of Community-based total sanitation on stunting in the service area of the Sei Bejangkar Health Center since the first survey indicated that 90 toddlers were stunted owing to the effects of inadequate sanitation. The study used a quantitative, cross-sectional methodology. This research was carried out near the Sei Bejangkar Health Center. All of the infants and toddlers in the puskesmas's operational region served as the study's population. Total sampling was used during the sampling process. Univariate, Bivariate, and Multivariate tests were utilized to analyze both main and secondary data in this study. Based on the data, it appears that there is no connection between the halt defecation movement and stunting in toddlers in the sei anchor health center's service area (P value of 0.529 or more than 0.05). Toddlers at the Sei Bejangkar Health Center are less likely to be stunted if open defecation is reduced. The p-value is 0.000, which means it's significantly larger than 0.05 (0.000 > 0.05).

Abstract

Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (Type 2 DM) is a chronic metabolic disease characterized by hyperglycemia due to insulin resistance and impaired insulin secretion. The disease is increasing in prevalence, especially in the adult age group, so it is important to identify the risk factors that play a role in the occurrence of Type 2 DM. This study aims to analyze the relationship of risk factors such as age, sex, history of hypertension, family history of DM, and body mass index (BMI) to the incidence of Type 2 DM in patients at Royal Prima Ayahanda Hospital Medan. This study uses an analytical observational design with a cross sectional approach. Data were obtained from the medical records of patients treated with a diagnosis of Type 2 DM in the period January 2023–December 2024. The sample was determined by purposive sampling technique, involving 44 patients aged 40–65 years who met the inclusion criteria. Data analysis was carried out using the chi-square test with the help of SPSS. The results showed that the majority of patients were in the age group of 50–59 years (47.7%), with a higher proportion of women (61.4%). Age, sex, and history of hypertension were not significantly associated with the incidence of Type 2 DM (p>0.05). In contrast, family history of DM (p=0.032) and BMI (p=0.012) showed a significant association with the incidence of Type 2 DM. Patients who are overweight and obese have a higher risk of developing Type 2 DM, as do individuals with a family history of DM. These findings confirm the importance of prevention through weight control and early detection in individuals with a family history of DM. This research is expected to be a reference for health workers in public education and risk factor-based interventions.

Abstract

This study aims to provide an overview of the risk factors associated with cholelithiasis among patients treated at Royal Prima Hospital Medan during 2022–2023. Using a quantitative approach with a cross-sectional design, data were collected simultaneously from patient medical records to identify and describe risk characteristics. The research population included all patients diagnosed with cholelithiasis within the specified period, while the sampling technique employed was proportional random sampling. Data were obtained through documentation methods and analyzed using univariate descriptive statistics to present the distribution of each variable. The findings revealed that the majority of patients were female (59.7%), aged over 40 years (68.1%), had a family history of cholelithiasis (90.3%), and were overweight (45.8%). Body mass index (BMI) analysis showed that 45.8% of patients were overweight, 36.1% had normal BMI, and 18.1% were obese, with no underweight cases identified. The results are expected to highlight key factors such as age range, body mass index (BMI), and family medical history contributing to the occurrence of cholelithiasis. This study provides valuable insights for healthcare providers in improving preventive strategies and promoting public awareness regarding the risk factors for cholelithiasis.
