Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

Changes due to genetic conditions (internal and chronological aging) overlap with aging symptoms triggered by environmental conditions (extrinsic aging). Until recently, exposure to the sun's ultraviolet (UV) radiation was considered the leading cause of extrinsic skin aging; both UVB (290-320 nm) and UVA (320-400 nm) caused photoaging, and due to their physical properties, UVB radiation was especially harmful to the skin condition. This study aims to analyze and test the effect of administering gotu kola leaf extract cream (Ceentella asiatica) on collagenization in Wistar rats (Rattus norvegicus) exposed to ultraviolet-B light. This study uses a posttest-only control group design, where only observations are made to the control group and treatment after the treatment is given. The research results show that gotu kola leaf extract contains phytochemicals that can be used as an antioxidant and anti-inflammatory ingredient because they contain flavonoids, saponins, tannins, and phenolic compounds. This research concludes that pegagan leaf extract contains phytochemicals that can be used as medicinal ingredients because it contains high antioxidant and anti-inflammatory compounds. The average percentage of collagen growth in the control group compared to treatment groups P1, P2, and P3 after exposure to UVB light was very high, and the group control of collagen growth was not significant and tended to be stable.

Abstract

Abstract

Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (Type 2 DM) is a chronic metabolic disease characterized by hyperglycemia due to insulin resistance and impaired insulin secretion. The disease is increasing in prevalence, especially in the adult age group, so it is important to identify the risk factors that play a role in the occurrence of Type 2 DM. This study aims to analyze the relationship of risk factors such as age, sex, history of hypertension, family history of DM, and body mass index (BMI) to the incidence of Type 2 DM in patients at Royal Prima Ayahanda Hospital Medan. This study uses an analytical observational design with a cross sectional approach. Data were obtained from the medical records of patients treated with a diagnosis of Type 2 DM in the period January 2023–December 2024. The sample was determined by purposive sampling technique, involving 44 patients aged 40–65 years who met the inclusion criteria. Data analysis was carried out using the chi-square test with the help of SPSS. The results showed that the majority of patients were in the age group of 50–59 years (47.7%), with a higher proportion of women (61.4%). Age, sex, and history of hypertension were not significantly associated with the incidence of Type 2 DM (p>0.05). In contrast, family history of DM (p=0.032) and BMI (p=0.012) showed a significant association with the incidence of Type 2 DM. Patients who are overweight and obese have a higher risk of developing Type 2 DM, as do individuals with a family history of DM. These findings confirm the importance of prevention through weight control and early detection in individuals with a family history of DM. This research is expected to be a reference for health workers in public education and risk factor-based interventions.

Abstract

The widespread use of earphones among college students, especially with high volume and long duration, increases the risk of noise-induced hearing loss (NIHL). Global data show that adolescents and young adults are a vulnerable group, but there are still limited studies examining the relationship between earphone use patterns and audiometry results in medical students in Indonesia. This study aims to analyze the relationship between the use of earphones and noise-induced hearing loss in students of the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Prima Indonesia. Using observational analytical approaches and cross-sectional designs, data were collected through questionnaires and audiometric examinations on 20 respondents. The results showed that there was a significant relationship between the duration of earphone use and hearing loss (p = 0.010), while the frequency of earphone use did not show a significant relationship (p = 0.543). These results provide important evidence regarding the impact of earphone use on students' hearing health. This research is expected to be the basis for educational institutions to develop educational programs regarding the safe use of earphones to prevent hearing loss.
