Teminabuan District is a district in South Sorong Regency with the largest population both from native residents and immigrants. This district has people with low education, low income and no skills. Limited public finances and transit habits have caused the village to become increasingly slum. Apart from that, land dysfunction produces slum settlements which will have an effect on the quality and quantity of various things, related to the condition of facilities, infrastructure and the condition of buildings in the slum settlement area. Considering the importance of these conditions, it is finally appropriate to identify the characteristics of slum settlements in the Sayolo 3 Kampung Tanjung area in dealing with the problems found in Sayolo 3 Kampung Tanjung with the aim of thoroughly examining the various conditions and detailed characteristics of the settlements and then obtaining appropriate directions. careful and effective. This research is descriptive research and the location selection is based on the consideration that the area requires attention, assistance as well as policies from the local government so that they can live properly. The results of this research in the form of physical buildings, infrastructure, land status, economic and social culture are still very low so that assistance from the government is still needed. Therefore, Sayolo 3 Kampung Tanjung requires handling and control both comprehensively and continuously.

Abstract

This study aims to develop locally sourced, self-produced feed for Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) in Kokoda District, West Papua, to reduce high production costs due to reliance on commercial feed. A survey of local raw materials identified the potential use of sago flour, sembilang fish, shrimp heads, and banana peels as feed ingredients. The feed formulation was designed with a protein content of 31% and tested through proximate analysis and a 42-day growth trial of Nile tilapia using a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) compared to commercial feed. Results showed that self-produced feed resulted in lower weight and length growth compared to commercial feed, with higher feed conversion ratio (FCR) efficiency in commercial feed. However, the self-produced feed still demonstrated potential as an economical alternative with nearly equivalent fish survival rates. The study concludes that with further adjustments, self-produced feed can become a sustainable solution for tilapia farmers in remote areas.

Abstract

The Rainbow Kurumoi ornamental fish (Melanotaenia parva) is an endemic species of Indonesia, originating from Lake Kurumoi in Papua, and is currently experiencing high levels of exploitation. Immediate efforts to rescue and conserve the Rainbow Kurumoi fish are crucial to prevent its extinction. The development of Rainbow Kurumoi fish farming has significant potential, particularly in South Sorong, which serves as a center for the germplasm of the Rainbow Boesmani fish species. This study was conducted to evaluate the growth and survival of Rainbow Boesmani fish using different feeding programs and water quality management to enhance their production. The research was designed using a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with four treatments and three replications. The treatments tested were: A (pellets), B (Artemia), C (hair worms), and D (water fleas). Data were analyzed using a CRD, and if significant differences were found, a further Duncan’s test was performed. The results indicated that different feeding treatments had a significant effect on the absolute weight growth of Rainbow Kurumoi fish from the third to the sixth week. The feeding treatments also significantly influenced the increase in the absolute length of the fish from the first to the sixth week. The survival rate of the Kurumoi fish, when fed different diets, ranged from 70% to 83%, which is considered to be in the good category.

Abstract

This study aims to identify the utilization of Non-Timber Forest Products (NTFPs) in the mangrove ecosystem and analyze their impact on the livelihoods of coastal communities in Teminabuan District, South Sorong Regency. The research was conducted from July to September 2024 using direct interviews with 50 respondents selected through purposive sampling, specifically community members who utilize mangrove resources. Data were collected through inventory to obtain comprehensive information on the types, quantities, and productivity of each NTFP commodity, and then analyzed using qualitative descriptive methods. The results indicate two main categories of NTFP utilization: flora (mangrove leaves, pedada, nipah, coconut, and rattan) and fauna associated with mangroves (honeybees, crabs, clams, ants, catfish, and shrimp). The utilization of NTFPs includes direct consumption, traditional medicine, sales, tourism, and garden creation. Mangroves play an important role as a source of food and livelihood for coastal communities, thus the utilization of NTFPs is carried out sustainably. This study provides baseline data on the potential of mangrove NTFPs in Teminabuan District, supporting sustainable management, community empowerment, forest conservation, and the improvement of coastal community welfare. These findings contribute to local economic development and the conservation of mangrove ecosystems in Southwest Papua.

Abstract

The Community service activities that have been carried out are generally based on seeing the potential of fisheries in South Sorong in particular, in Teminabuan District which is quite high. In addition, due to the low level of fishery-based processing, mothers who do not have the knowledge, skills and motivation are the target participants so that they can have a busy life and earn additional income. This service aims to provide training so that they can utilize the potential of fisheries with the method of processing intact raw materials into products that can be sold by utilizing science and technology, so that in the end mothers can help their families. The method used in this service activity is Participatory Learning And Action (PLA), which is a learning technique that emphasizes the learning process together because the learning mechanism is accompanied by the direct application of the dimsum processing process. Through this shrimp processing activity, mothers are able to provide healthy and nutritious intake to the family as well as the first step to bring up ideas and interest in entrepreneurship.

Abstract

Water is a vital resource for coastal communities, which often have limited access to clean water. This study aimed to analyze and compare the quality of rainwater and borehole water as drinking water sources in Sayolo 3, Tanjung Village, South Sorong Regency. This study employed a quantitative descriptive approach. Water samples were collected directly from the sources and analyzed in a laboratory for 12 physical and inorganic chemical parameters. The results were compared with the quality standards stipulated in the Indonesian Minister of Health Regulation Number 2 of 2023. The findings indicate that rainwater meets all tested parameters, including pH, total dissolved solids (TDS), turbidity, iron (Fe), lead (Pb), manganese (Mn), nitrate, and hardness. In contrast, the borehole water contains iron (Fe) at a concentration of 0.309 mg/L, exceeding the maximum permissible limit of 0.2 mg/L, although its other parameters remain within the safe limits. It was concluded that rainwater is more suitable for direct use as a drinking water source in the study area, whereas borehole water requires additional treatment, specifically to reduce iron content, to ensure its safety for consumption.

Abstract

The community in Teminabuan generally only uses catfish (ikan sembilang) for daily consumption as a side dish. Therefore, there is a need for training activities on processing catfish into fish meatballs by utilizing the potential in Teminabuan District. Although several natural potentials exist in Teminabuan, this community service focuses on catfish as the training object. The main issue at the location is that, despite the abundant availability of catfish, processing it into value-added products is still very limited. The community has little knowledge about making fish meatballs from catfish or how to market the processed products. This activity aims to provide participants with knowledge and insights on how to produce fish meatball products from catfish, the benefits for family economics, how to design the products attractively for consumers, and how to market the products online. The methods used were lectures, mentoring, and hands-on practice. The results showed that participants understood how to process catfish into fish meatballs and gained knowledge on marketing the product. Throughout the activity, participants actively engaged in discussions and practical processing sessions. At the end, they had the opportunity to taste the catfish meatballs they created. Following this activity, it is expected that participants will be able to process catfish independently for family consumption, considering its high nutritional value, and foster an entrepreneurial spirit, especially among housewives and youth, to establish independent businesses that increase household income.
