Abstract

Abstract

Problem solving is a crucial aspect of the education curriculum, as it reflects the skills expected to be possessed by students. Indicating that the majority of students face difficulties in this process. Studies also indicate that numeracy literacy plays a significant role in enhancing mathematical problem-solving skills. This research aims to develop a numeracy literacy assessment that integrates Pandeglang Regency's local knowledge, with a particular emphasis on geometry, to enhance the mathematical problem-solving abilities of Grade IX. This study fits into the Tessmer formative research model, which is related to the category of development research. The study involved 35 ninth-grade students from MTsN 2 Pandeglang as participants. Various tools were used to gather data, such as validation sheets, interview guidelines, and numeracy literacy tests inspired by local knowledge in the Pandeglang Regency. The analysis process included assessing these tools' effectiveness, reliability, and precision through expert assessments and statistical methods. The study's conclusions show that the developed test's quality comprises moderate difficulty for each of the three items, good validity, and satisfactory item discrimination.

Abstract

Numerous research on the application of the Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) method on students' mathematical ability have been carried out during the last 10 years. However, the impact of study characteristics on the level of variation among studies has not been fully explained in previous primary studies. The purpose of this study is to quantify the impact of RME on Indonesian students' mathematical proficiency. The research method used in this study is meta-analysis. Data collection was done by identifying articles published in national journals and proceedings. 36 articles were examined using the meta-mar website and the random effects model for estimation in accordance with the inclusion criteria. The application of RME has an overall effect size of 0.95 on students' mathematical abilities, which corresponds to into the category of a high effect, according to the random effects model, according to this study.

Abstract

This article discusses the significance of numerical literacy in using appropriate models and media in mathematics education. The Systematic Literature Review (SLR) used in this article aims to analyze, identify, review, and interpret research on using models and learning media to improve students' numeracy literacy. This literature review involves three stages based on the PRISMA  (Preferred reporting Items for Systematics Review and Meta-Analyses) flow diagram, namely literature screening with 153 documents, the Eligibility stage resulting in 58 relevant documents, and the Qualification stage producing 42 documents meeting the inclusion criteria. The eligible documents were analyzed using thematic analysis, highlighting main themes related to learning models and instructional media in numeracy literacy based on a review of 36 articles.  The aftereffects of the examination demonstrate how proper models and learning media can upgrade understudies' numeracy proficiency abilities and assist them with applying numerical ideas in regular daily existence. The implementation of numeracy literacy can be done through case examples, problem-solving, and utilization of digital technology. Effective learning models for improving numeracy literacy include project-based learning, problem-based learning, Contextual Teaching Learning (CTL), Realistic Mathematics Education (RME), game-based learning, and Flipped Classroom. Several learning media can include instructional videos, software, cultural innovations, and numeracy literacy modules. These approaches can help students become more active and engaged in mathematics learning.
