Abstract

The study of modern Islamic thought in Indonesia is very important to be studied more deeply. This is because the study never ceases to be debated. The purpose of this paper is to understand 3 things: First, the paradigm of modern Islamic thought. Second, the internal and external factors that influence modern Islam. Third, the positive and negative implications of modern Islam on Islamic socio-intellectual discourse in Indonesia. The method used is library research with a qualitative approach, the data is analyzed using content analysis techniques. The results found are three things: First, there are 4 forms of modern Islamic thought paradigm in Indonesia: reform, evolutionary, progressive, adaptive. Second, internally there are 3 factors that influence it: (1) the demand for renewal of Islamic teachings that are too taqlid and rigid (2) awareness of purifying Islamic practices (3) the Islamic press movement spread widely. As for externally, there are 3 factors that influence it: (1) the influence of modernity in the Western world (2) the dominance of Middle Eastern clerical thought (3) the reality of competition from other cultures and religions. Third, the positive implications of modern Islam for Islam in Indonesia are three things: (1) progressiveness in various fields (2) Islamic teachings are more rational (3) Islamic thought exists and is relevant to the contemporary context. Meanwhile, the negative implications of modern Islam on Islam in Indonesia are 3 things: (1) conflict between community groups (2) rejection from conservative groups (3) marginalization of figures and extremism tendencies. The conclusion of this paper shows that modern Islamic thought in Indonesia contains complex dynamics in shaping the social life of Muslims in Indonesia.

Abstract

This article examines the social literary approach to interpreting the Qur'an. The social literary approach is perceived as a portrayal of the social and cultural milieu surrounding the commentator. Although this approach appears more attuned to society, it transpires that the social literary approach employed by commentators exhibits less affinity towards contemporary culture, traditions, and politics in Indonesia. This is because commentators place greater emphasis on imparting advice and reminders for adhering to Islamic principles. Present-day developments are constrained to conform to classical interpretations, with dissenting interpretations being deemed erroneous. The lack of flexibility, accommodation, and adaptability to local traditions and culture is evident in the interpretation of the Qur'an. The current phenomenon in Indonesia entails endeavors to realize religious moderation to uphold the unity, harmony, and peace of all Indonesian citizens. This pursuit of religious moderation necessitates new interpretations that are adaptable and not rigidly bound to culture and differences. Reconstructing the social literary approach is a necessary measure to achieve this goal. The methodology employed in this article is qualitative-interpretive and draws upon acculturation theory, which underscores cultural diversity. The reconstructed approach outlined in this article advocates for an interpretation of the Qur'an that integrates with culture and tradition, rather than imposing itself upon them. Three key considerations are delineated for actualizing the social literary approach in interpreting the Qur'an: observing phenomena, accounting for spatial and temporal contexts, and prioritizing the public good.

Abstract

This article seeks to discuss the role of co-parenting in shaping Islamic education within families and how this practice contributes to fostering social and religious harmony in a pluralistic society. This article employs a qualitative approach, collecting data through interviews with selected interlocutors to explore the parenting models used by each parent. This article argues that the co-parenting model emphasizes the cooperation of all family members, with effective communication serving as a crucial tool in building a holistic Islamic education that promotes harmony within the family. The article also highlights the importance of incorporating universal Islamic values into family education to shape children’s character and morals, aligning with sharia principles and promoting respect for diversity, thereby contributing to the harmonization of the religious and social spheres. Furthermore, the interviewees expressed a preference for both parents to be actively involved in the Islamic education process within the family environment. This desired involvement not only strengthens family ties but also creates a well-rounded learning experience for children. This study demonstrates that the stability of co-parenting provides a robust theoretical and empirical foundation to support the development of a model that can be applied in various Muslim family contexts, with the ultimate goal of fostering harmony within a broader religious dynamic.

Abstract

Indonesia is highlighted as the third-ranked "fatherless country." A fatherless country refers to a nation where the role and presence of fathers in childcare are minimal. The lack of paternal involvement in the upbringing and education of children is driven by deeply rooted societal stigmas. This phenomenon is rooted in a strong patriarchal culture, in which childcare is seen entirely as the mother’s responsibility. Based on the above, a solution is needed to respond to this phenomenon. The fatherless issue calls on society to re-evaluate the parameters of a father’s role in the family, especially toward children. The Qur’an, as a guide for Muslims, contains indicators and answers to all of life’s problems. Therefore, seeking solutions to the fatherless phenomenon through the Qur’an becomes crucial to implement. This research is qualitative in nature, using a library research approach. The data is presented using descriptive analytical techniques. The study finds that the fatherless phenomenon contradicts the substance of the Qur’an. The interpretation (Tafsir) by Indonesia’s Ministry of Religious Affairs (KEMENAG RI) contains numerous verses that imply exemplary behavior and ideal values a father should embody toward his child. The interpretation by the KEMENAG RI team of these verses is relevant for application in the Indonesian context. Based on the analysis, the involvement of fathers in the childcare process has a significant positive impact on the child's growth and development. By highlighting various examples of the ideal father figure from the KEMENAG RI Tafsir, it is hoped that these can be implemented to help reduce the percentage of fatherlessness in Indonesia.
