Abstract

One possible way for school students obtaining environmental awareness is from environmental knowledge taught in classes. The Community Service Program of Department of Marine Science of Fisheries and Marine Science Faculty, Pattimura University in the form disseminations on literacy of coastal environment aimed to encourage school students to be pioneers and drivers for coastal conservation and beach clean-ups in their local community in Ambon Bay. The materials used in the disseminations focused on understanding coastal environment in Ambon Bay, and sources and types of pollutants in the system. The materials also covered the impacts of the coastal pollution and how to address it including to reduce and solve the pollution in Ambon Bay. At the end of the disseminations, the questions-and-answer session was conducted to evaluate the understanding of students on the knowledge of marine pollution management in Ambon Bay,

Abstract

The activities carried out are anticipating bullying behavior. Because bullying can have a negative impact on the development of children in elementary schools, this is a current concern. One of the many things that may cause someone to bully another is the perpetrator's belief that his or her actions do not fall into a certain category. The problem at Hatalai State Elementary School is children's ignorance and lack of focus on bullying. To overcome this, an anti-bullying outreach program was created which aims to educate Hatalai State Elementary School students about bullying. This socialization process consists of three parts: (1) preparation, namely creating activity schedules, resources and activity plans. (2) Carrying out socialization at the implementation stage (3) assessment stage by explaining shortcomings and successes after socialization. Socialization was also provided. The implementation results show that students can understand the information included in the anti-bullying socialization program at Hatalai State Elementary School. The program covers topics such as verbal, physical, social, cyber bullying and how to deal with it.

Abstract

Abstract

This study investigated the characteristics of stratification and vertical stability of southern waters of Tanimbar Islands Regency. CTD Data from World Ocean Database 2018 especially November 1995 to represent second transitional season were utilized in this study. The CTD data were processed using Ocean Data View. This study showed that vertically the temperature of the surface layer ranged between 29 to 30 oC and the thickness of surface mixed layer was found to be 44 m. The thermocline layer has temperature ranging between 12 to 28 oC and a maximum depth of 306 m. Below thermocline layer temperature reduced to reach less than 7 oC (depth > 500 m). On the halocline layer, a high saline water was found between 66 - 94 m depth and was located on the southern part between Barbar Islands and Tanimbar Islands. Water mass was found to be unstable in the mixing layer.

Abstract

Abstract

Community Service Program (PKM) of the Pattimura University Student Community Service (KKN) batch L in Negeri Rumah Tiga is a community service action to clean the environment involving KKN students, State Apparatus and the community in Negeri Rumah Tiga. This activity aims to make the environment clean, healthy and beautiful as expected by the entire community, also fostering a culture of mutual cooperation in the Negeri Rumah Tiga Community. This community service activity is filled with cleaning the streets from garbage and weeds, gutters and picking up garbage in the yard. The implementation of this activity went smoothly. The evaluation of the implementation of this activity is that this activity must be routinely scheduled continuously, especially before entering the rainy season. The community's commitment to participating in this activity and maintaining its environment with good waste management also still needs to be improved. This activity also requires commitment from various parties, not only adults but also the participation of children in this activity as a form of campaign to maintain a clean lifestyle environment and the inheritance of cultural values for future generations.

Abstract

The eastern Seram waters are influenced by both the Seram Sea and the Banda Sea. This study aimed to examine variations in wind, surface currents, and sea surface temperature (SST) during 2015, coinciding with the super El Niño event. Data were obtained from the Group for High Resolution Sea Surface Temperature (GHRSST) and the Copernicus Marine Environment Monitoring Service (CMEMS). The results indicated that the monthly average wind speed in this area ranged from 0.01 to 8.98 m/s, with the lowest speed in November and the highest from January and June to September. Surface currents also exhibited seasonal variability, flowing from the Seram Sea to the Banda Sea during the west season (December–January) and reversing eastward in February. During the east season, Banda Sea water masses were supplied by Seram Sea water. Sea surface temperature decreased notably from June to August, with the lowest temperature recorded in August due to upwelling in the Banda and Arafura Seas. Surface currents formed eddies with warm water centers in the northern part of eastern Seram waters, and cold water centers (25,4 °C) were also observed. The convergence of these two water masses with distinct characteristics generated thermal fronts with temperature differences, resulting in strong temperature gradients from August to October as a consequence of upwelling and cooling induced by the intense El Niño at the end of 2015.
