Abstract

This study aims to analyze the role of the murabbi (spiritual mentor) in the process of transforming students’ religious character through halakah tarbiyah activities and to examine the internalization of the 5M values (mukmin, mushlih, mujahid, mutqin, and muta’awin) at the Wahdah Islamiyah Cibinong Tahfidz Islamic Boarding School. This research employs a descriptive qualitative approach, with data collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. Data were analyzed in three stages: data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that halakah tarbiyah functions as the main instrument for character formation through a process of structured spiritual guidance and collective religious practices. The murabbi plays a central role as a facilitator, role model, and motivator in instilling Islamic values. The internalization of the 5M values is carried out gradually through halakah sessions, mentoring, and daily evaluations. These values have proven effective in fostering students’ religious awareness, moral responsibility, and worship discipline. The contribution of this study lies in strengthening a tarbiyah-based character education model that is relevant to the development of Islamic formation systems in modern Islamic boarding schools.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the semantic meaning of the term Rabb in the Qur’an and explain its implications for the concept of Islamic education, particularly within the framework of tarbiyah. The research employs a library-based method with a Qur’anic semantic approach through lexical analysis, contextual examination of verses, and semantic relation mapping. Data were obtained from primary sources consisting of Qur’anic verses containing the word Rabb, as well as secondary sources such as classical and contemporary tafsir works, tarbiyah literature, and studies in Arabic linguistics. The findings indicate that the term Rabb encompasses a broad range of meanings, including creation, nurturing, regulation, guidance, and the gradual perfection of human nature (fitrah). These results affirm that tarbiyah in the Qur’anic perspective is not merely the transmission of knowledge, but an integral and continuous process that involves spiritual, moral, intellectual, and social development. The study concludes that understanding the comprehensive meaning of Rabb provides a theological and philosophical foundation for a holistic Islamic educational concept that is gradual, character-oriented, and centered on the development of human fitrah toward maturity and piety. Keywords: education, islamic education, rabb, tarbiah, tarbiah islamiah

Abstract

This study addresses the problem of how the values of akhlaqul karimah (noble character) contained in Bakr bin ‘Abdullah Abu Zaid’s Ḥilyatu Ṭālib al-‘Ilmi can be internalized within the framework of Islamic philosophy of education. The significance of this topic lies in the urgent need to strengthen character education in Islamic institutions in the digital era, where the erosion of moral values is increasingly evident. The objective of the research is to examine the integration of Ḥilyatu Ṭālib al-‘Ilmi’s values with the fundamental concepts of Islamic philosophy of education, offering both theoretical enrichment and practical guidance for contemporary Islamic education. This study employs a qualitative library research approach, analyzing primary sources (the book itself and classical references) and secondary literature through philosophical-hermeneutical analysis. The findings reveal that the book emphasizes key virtues such as sincerity, humility, perseverance, discipline, respect for teachers, and intellectual selectivity. These align with the ontological view of humans as rational and moral beings, the epistemological principle that knowledge is acquired through both revelation and disciplined inquiry, and the axiological aim of forming socially responsible and ethically upright individuals. The study concludes that internalizing Abu Zaid’s adab framework provides a timeless model for Islamic character education. Theoretically, it enriches the discourse on Islamic educational philosophy by bridging classical wisdom with contemporary challenges; practically, it offers actionable guidance for educators, students, and institutions in nurturing morally grounded and intellectually robust learners.
