Abstract

General Background: The increasing demand for halal-certified products underscores the importance of regulatory compliance among micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs). Specific Background: In Indonesia, especially in regions like Deli Serdang, halal certification among MSMEs remains limited despite supportive policies. Knowledge Gap: Few studies empirically assess the behavioral and cognitive factors influencing halal certification compliance at the MSME level. Aims: This study aims to examine the relationship between halal certification compliance and four factors: halal awareness, knowledge, convenience, and producer attitudes among MSMEs in Deli Serdang Regency. Results: Using a quantitative descriptive approach with multiple linear regression on data from 100 purposively sampled participants, the study found that knowledge and convenience significantly affect compliance (p = 0.000), while awareness and producer attitudes do not (p = 0.100 and 0.120). Collectively, these factors explain 69% of the variance in compliance (R² = 0.690, p = 0.000). Novelty: The research uniquely combines psychological and practical constructs to analyze halal certification behavior, providing a comprehensive behavioral framework. Implications: These findings offer actionable insights for policymakers, certification authorities, and MSME stakeholders to design targeted training and regulatory support aimed at enhancing halal compliance and reducing certification barriers. Highlights : Highlights the dominant role of knowledge and convenience in halal certification compliance. Reveals that awareness and attitude alone do not ensure compliance. Offers policy insights to improve MSME halal practices through targeted interventions. Keywords: Halal Awareness, Halal Certification, MSME Compliance, Producer Attitudes, Halal Knowledge

Abstract

This study investigates the effect of capital and technology on the productivity of the household songket industry in Batu Bara Regency using a maslahah perspective. A quantitative associative approach was applied with a census of 62 business units. Data were collected through questionnaires and analyzed using multiple linear regression with SPSS 26. The results show that capital has a positive and significant effect on productivity (β = 0.542; t = 4.676; p = 0.000), while technology also has a positive and significant effect (β = 0.290; t = 2.009; p = 0.049). Simultaneously, capital and technology significantly influence productivity (F = 28.342; p = 0.000). The model explains 49% of the variation in productivity (R² = 0.490), indicating moderate explanatory power. These findings confirm that capital and technology are important determinants of productivity, although their effects remain limited due to the influence of other factors such as labor skills and market conditions. From a maslahah perspective, productivity improvement reflects not only economic gains but also contributes to business sustainability and artisan welfare.

These results align with the objectives of maqāṣid al-sharī‘ah, particularly the protection of wealth (ḥifẓ al-māl), the protection of life (ḥifẓ al-nafs), and the preservation of human dignity, where innovation and a supportive organizational culture contribute to sustainable performance and employee welfare. Implication – This study contributes to the literature on Islamic economic law by demonstrating that employee performance in a Special Economic Zone is not merely a managerial outcome, but also an ethical and legal expression shaped by Islamic Work Ethics and the objectives of maqāṣid al-sharī‘ah. By integrating Islamic Work Ethics and maqāṣid al-sharī‘ah, the findings support the development of organizational policies that promote justice, balance, and employee welfare while sustaining performance and organizational continuity

Abstract

The rapid digitalization of pilgrimage services has transformed the way prospective Muslims organize Umrah, enabling greater autonomy through online platforms. This study investigates the effects of perceived risk, price perception, and online application usability on the intention to perform independent Umrah in Batu Bara Regency, Indonesia. Drawing upon the Theory of Planned Behavior, a quantitative survey was conducted among 100 respondents selected through purposive sampling. Data were analyzed using multiple linear regression. The findings reveal that perceived risk does not significantly influence independent Umrah intention. In contrast, price perception and online application usability exert positive and significant effects on behavioral intention. Simultaneously, the three variables significantly explain variations in intention, highlighting affordability and digital convenience as key determinants of independent Umrah adoption. These findings extend the understanding of consumer behavior within the emerging digital pilgrimage ecosystem and suggest that technology-enabled accessibility and transparent pricing are more influential than risk perceptions in shaping independent Umrah intentions. The study offers practical implications for policymakers and digital Umrah service providers seeking to enhance user engagement and support the growth of independent pilgrimage services.
