Abstract

This research used a qualitative with a descriptive approach. Observation and interview were used to collect the data. The data analysis technique in this research described movement motifs, floor patterns, accompaniment, fashion, and make-up, then analyzing the values of character education. The character values ​​in Kayie dance are to teach teenagers to be good all the time, to always be patient, and to fight to survive. Meanwhile, in society, the educational values ​​taught to teenagers through the Kayie dance are tolerance, respect, maintaining good manners, and being responsible for the surrounding environment. Finally, the value of character education is related to national values. By instilling this value, teenagers can have a sense of love for their regional culture. Character formation through learning values ​​in the Kayie dance aims to know and implement these character values ​​into everyday life. The character values in the Kayie dance make a person tough and strong.

Abstract

Pertunjukan Simuntu sudah mentradisi di masyarakat Nagari Koto Kaciak dari dahulu sampai sekarang yang didukung oleh masyarakat setempat. Sampai saat sekarang pertunjukan Simuntu baik dari segi bentuk pertunjukan dan fungsinya tidak mengalami perubahan yang selalu berpatokan kepada warisan dari nenek moyang terdahulu. Pertunjukan Simuntu tanpa merubah keasliannya selalu dilakukan pada saat hari raya Idul Fitri, Idul Adha, dan 17 Agustus. Oleh sebab itu penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji bentuk pertunjukan dan fungsi Simuntu dalam masyarakat Nagari Koto Kaciak. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kualitatif dengan menggunakan pendekatan fenomenologis berdasarkan teori bentuk dan fungsi. Metode pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui observasi, wawancara, dan studi dokumentasi. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan teknik snow ball, dan analisis datanya menggunakan langkah-langkah dari Milles dan Huberman. Keabsahan data dilakukan dengan menggunakan triangulasi: sumber, waktu, metode, dan triangulasi teknik. Temuan penelitian ini adalah sebagai berikut. (1) Bentuk Pertunjukan Simuntu yang terdiri dari: a) Pertunjukan Simuntu; b) Gerak Simuntu; c) Waktu dan Tempat Pertunjukan Simuntu; d) Busana Simuntu; e) Doa untuk Pertunjukan Simuntu; dan f) Iringan Pertunjukan Simuntu. (2) Fungsi Pertunjukan Simuntu terdiri dari: a) Upacara atau Ritual; b) Pewaris Nilai Budaya; c) Ekonomi; d) Hiburan; e) Komunikasi; dan f) Sajian Estetis.

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the motifs, functions, and philosophical meanings of the Maha Seribija Wangsa Songket of the Laut tribe. This study used a descriptive qualitative method with a cultural approach through document analysis, and the data analysis was performed using thematic analysis techniques. The results of the study are: (1) The Maha Seribija Wangsa Songket motif is a unified form consisting of the boat (Jalo), the compass point (Matu Meno), the anchor, the wave (Gelumbang), and the shell (Tengan) motif. The attributes of the Songket are the ladders, cross dice, service marks, Bengkong, and guide stick. (2) The functions of the Maha Seribija Songket of the Laut tribe leader include the coronation of the president, king, and sultan of the Laut tribe; the coronation of the vice president, ministers, patih, commander, laksmana, and formal ceremonies for the Laut tribe. (3) The philosophical meaning of the Maha Seribija Wangsa Songket includes the existence of the Laut tribe people in the middle of the sea and the coast, the direction of the Laut tribe in living their lives, the history of the Laut people who helped maintain the glory of the Malay Kings, the long, unbroken history of the Laut tribe people from the past until now, shellfish as the main livelihood of the Laut tribe people.

Abstract

The people of the Siberut Mentawai islands still maintain various arts and practice the culture and customs of their ancestors. They have natural environment ornaments including tattoos and Jaraik, which is a symbol of the greatness of the Sikerei (Shaman) house in the Mentawai tribe.  Along with the progress and development of the Mentawai area, traditional culture began to shift, therefore it is necessary to carry out conservation and development efforts. So, the purpose of this research is the efforts to preserve and produce creative art products based on local wisdom by transforming tattoos, jaraik, and other Mentawai natural environments in batik art and uniting various elements of visual cultural arts as supporting elements. The method used is research and development adopting the 4 D steps with four stages of development design, development, and deployment. In addition, the study also conducted studies of art and aesthetics, design and fashion as well as analysis of market tastes. So, the outputs of this research are; prototypes of batik art innovation products based on local Mentawai culture that are market-worthy; and scientific articles in reputable international journals. Focus Group Discussion (FGD) and product feasibility tests were carried out by experts and product exhibitions which were used as Mentawai branding. Â
