Abstract

Abstract: The bapukung tradition is a cultural heritage of the Banjar people that has existed since ancestral times. This tradition is practiced when a child is fussy, tired, or experiencing stomach pain and crying continuously. The bapukung method involves placing the child in a swing in a seated position, with the neck supported using a tapih (a traditional lower cloth), allowing the baby to sleep soundly for up to 12 hours. Bapukung is typically performed on babies aged 2 to 9 months. To help the baby fall asleep, lullabies containing prayers and parental hopes are often sung. This study employs a qualitative approach using ethnographic methods, viewing culture not merely as a product but as a continuously evolving process. Data collection was conducted through interviews and direct observations of the Tembilahan community who practice the bapukung tradition. The findings of this research indicate that, despite modernization and technological advancements influencing baby-carrying practices, the fundamental principles of the bapukung tradition are still upheld by the Banjar community in Tembilahan. This tradition remains an integral part of daily life and serves as an effort to preserve local cultural heritage.

Abstract

This study investigates cognitive load and rule acquisition in sharaf (Arabic morphology) learning, with particular attention to the role of working memory among third-semester students of the Arabic Language Education Program at IAIN Kerinci. Employing a qualitative case study design, data were collected through in-depth interviews with 10 students and participatory observation in sharaf classes. Thematic analysis revealed four primary challenges: (1) the linguistic complexity and irregularity of morphological patterns that burden memory, (2) limited working memory capacity that constrains the recall and application of rules, (3) pedagogical gaps caused by lecture-dominated methods with minimal student engagement, and (4) differences in students’ educational backgrounds that affect comprehension. The study further identified effective strategies for reducing cognitive load, including material simplification with visual aids, structured and contextual repetition, task-based learning, and metacognitive training. These findings highlight the importance of adaptive teaching approaches aligned with students’ cognitive capacities to enhance Arabic language instruction.

Abstract

Mudzakarah is a traditional Islamic learning method still used today. It helps students understand what they learned in class. Although well-known, there are few studies on its use in learning Arabic at Islamic schools. This study looks at how mudzakarah is used and its impact on fifth-grade girls learning Arabic at Pondok Pesantren Dar Al-Nahda Thawalib Bangkinang. The study uses a qualitative approach and descriptive method. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and document analysis. The subjects were fifth-grade girls in the diniyah education program. The results show that mudzakarah involves structured group discussions, Q&A sessions, and repeating learned material. This method helps reinforce learning and encourages active participation. The study found that mudzakarah improves understanding of Arabic grammar rules, especially in reading and understanding texts. It also boosts confidence, motivation, and cooperation among students. Factors that help mudzakarah work well include a supportive school environment and motivated students. Challenges include differences in student abilities and limited time. Overall, mudzakarah plays a key role in improving understanding of Arabic grammar and supports effective language learning in Islamic schools.

Abstract

This study aims to develop and evaluate the program’s effectiveness in improving students’ academic writing skills and publication productivity. This study employed a Research and Development (R&D) method using the ADDIE framework: analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. It was conducted from July to August 2025 in the Graduate School of UIN SUSKA Riau. The participants were six active students from semesters I–III, selected through purposive sampling based on commitment to academic writing, absence of prior publications, and diverse academic backgrounds. Data were collected through observations, interviews, and document analysis, and analyzed using qualitative and quantitative approaches. The result is a structured scientific incubation program supported by mentoring modules, assessment tools, and publication guidelines. Limited implementation showed significant effectiveness in enhancing writing motivation, improving manuscript quality, and increasing publication output. This study recommends broader implementation to strengthen academic culture and postgraduate publication capacity.
