Abstract

The focus of this study is to explain the concept of homo digitalis in light of the material and substantial dimensions of culture. Changes are always experienced by intelligent creatures, namely humans. With this change, hu[1]mans have now become humans who are no longer called homo sapiens but homo digitalis. The birth of homo digitalis coincided with digital technology which accompanied and colored his daily life. With this technology, a homo digitalis knits and interprets the surrounding reality as his own culture. Homo digitalis is present in the world existentially and has its own culture. For this reason, this study wants to describe homo digitalis in terms of the material and substantial dimensions of culture so that everything related to homo digitalis culture can be discovered from it. The method used in this study is a qualitative method through literature study. This study found that homo digitalis has a unique and complex culture. The contribution of this study is a treasure of knowledge about homo digitalis culture which is actually a universal human reality today.

Abstract

This study discusses the appreciation of religious religiosity in modern society and how religion as a religiosity of society plays a role in the world of modern life. Jürgen Habermas argues that religion is a social fact that has never disappeared from human civilization even though the world has experienced various changes in secular modern civilization. People still pray diligently and carry out various teachings from religion. But today, religion is questioned because it does not have a meaningful contribution to the world. For this reason, this study will explore religion as religiosity so that a contribution to the world of universal life can be found. This study uses qualitative research methods by applying literature studies. The object of study of this study is analyzed collaboratively; analyzing religion from an anthropological point of view and collaborated with Jürgen Habermas' philosophical views on religion. By applying a collaborative study, this study finds that religion as religiosity has a functional and substantial capacity to restore life in the midst of modernity that has lost its human orientation. The contribution of this study is some principles that must be considered in religion as an orientation in the pace of development of an increasingly modern world.

Abstract

The missionary work of the Church today often experiences deadlock and even failure due to the work of the wrong mission strategy, not on target, or not following the context of the lives of the faithful. To realize an appropriate and effective mission, the Church needs to conduct an interdisciplinary study between the theology of mission and other sciences, including anthropology. This science can provide accurate and efficient information related to the condition of the people so that the mission of the Church can truly enter the context of the lives of the faithful in a particular area and thus the gospel of truth and joy can be felt by the people. The purpose of this study is to describe the meaning and important role of anthropology, especially applied anthropology for the mission of the Church today, namely in pastoral and catechetical services. The methodology used is a qualitative method by applying a literature study, namely research on books and scientific articles as well as related Church documents. This study found that the science of anthropology is very useful for the mission of the church, especially anthropology has contributed to developing the treasures of Christian theology. The unique contribution of this study is contextual and up-to-date knowledge about mission strategies that can embrace the people of God in all places and times.

Abstract

The relationship between religion and politics in Indonesian democracy often generates tension, particularly due to the dominance of majority groups that influence public policy and restrict the freedoms of religious minorities. This article aims to analyze how the thought of Jürgen Habermas can be used to examine and critique the religion–politics relationship within the context of Indonesian democracy. Four core principles of postsecularism—mutual learning, the translation of religious language into secular language, bonum commune, and state neutrality—are employed as the theoretical framework to evaluate non-inclusive democratic practices. This study uses a qualitative approach based on literature review and case analysis, including restrictions on the construction of houses of worship and the politicization of religion during elections. The study shows that Habermas’s ideas can be used to build a political ethics in Indonesia, but they require adaptation to the complex local socio-political realities, including the strong presence of religious identity in the public sphere. Thus, the article concludes that Habermas’s thought is relevant for constructing a more deliberative and inclusive political ethic in Indonesia, and offers a new philosophical approach for criticizing religious exclusivism within majority-rule democracies.
