Abstract

This study aims to analyze how cultural values are represented and perceived in digital media content, particularly on the TikTok platform. Employing a qualitative grounded theory approach, the research involved nine observations of content creators who share representations of both local and transnational cultures. The data analysis process was conducted in stages using open coding, axial coding, and selective coding, facilitated by NVivo 15 software to support coding, conceptual relationships, and data visualization. The findings reveal that “Educational and Reflective Impact” emerged as the core category representing the main outcome of digital cultural content. This impact arises from the complex interaction of several supporting categories: Cultural Representation, Cultural Values and Tolerance, Presentation Strategies and Appeal, Audience Participation and Response, Consistency and Cultural Commitment, and Digital Communication Ethics. These findings suggest that digital cultural content serves not only as entertainment but also as a medium for social education and cultural reflection, especially when presented authentically, engagingly, and ethically. This study contributes to the field of digital cultural literacy and offers a systematic approach to understanding how culture is communicated, interpreted, and reimagined by global audiences through social media.

Abstract

This community service program aimed to enhance the competence of tutors in non-formal educational institutions in implementing the Literature-Based Learning (LBL) approach in teaching. The two-day training was conducted at Bimbel Merauke Cerdas, South Papua, involving 12 participating tutors. The training employed a combination of conceptual material delivery and hands-on practice, designed to equip participants with an understanding of the theoretical foundations of LBL, its connection to Communicative Language Teaching (CLT), Vygotsky’s sociocultural theory, and Reader-Response theory. The results showed a significant increase in average scores: cognitive (from 3.06 to 4.00), practical skills (from 2.98 to 3.79), and perception (from 3.07 to 3.98). These findings indicate the training's success in enhancing conceptual understanding, instructional design skills, and participants’ positive attitudes toward LBL implementation. In conclusion, the training effectively strengthened the tutors’ theoretical knowledge, practical competencies, and reflective abilities in adopting literature as an integral part of the learning process.

Abstract

Regional songs are authentic sources that represent the socio-cultural life of the communities in which they emerge. Therefore, research is needed to examine how the socio-cultural conditions of the Bima people are represented in the regional songs Kambali Mbojo Mantoi and Tio Kalao by Gun Malingi. This study aims to reveal the socio-cultural changes reflected in these two songs as well as the didactic values embedded within them. The research employs a literary sociology approach supported by social change theory. A descriptive qualitative method is applied to analyze the song lyrics, focusing on the socio-cultural changes and didactic values they contain. The findings show that: (1) the songs represent socio-cultural changes through the diminishing presence of several Bima traditions, such as pako fare, doa dana, rawi rasa, kareku kandei, and rimpu mpida; (2) the songs also depict shifts in the relationship between humans and nature; and (3) the researcher identifies didactic values in the form of Bima local wisdom ngaha aina ngoho which serves to reinforce educational values. These changes indicate a regression within the Bima community, marked by the fading of socio-cultural values and environmental degradation. Ultimately, these Bima regional songs play a vital role in preserving and sustaining Bima cultural identity and traditions, while fostering collective awareness of the importance of safeguarding cultural values, traditions, and the natural environment amid modern social change.
