Abstract

Olive oil is a key component of the Mediterranean diet, renowned for its flavor and health benefits, especially for its polyphenol content. These polyphenols have strong antioxidant properties, protecting cells from oxidative stress and reducing the risk of chronic diseases such as cardiovascular disease, cancer, and neurodegenerative disorders. This study aims to systematically identify and quantify the main polyphenols in different types of olive oil, including Extra Virgin Olive Oil (EVOO), Virgin Olive Oil (VOO), Refined Olive Oil (ROO), Pure Olive Oil (POO), and Pomace Olive Oil. Using a qualitative approach and descriptive analysis, a comprehensive literature study was conducted to collect and evaluate research on polyphenol content in various olive oils. The results showed significant differences in polyphenol profiles. EVOO, which is produced through cold pressing without heat or chemicals, has the highest polyphenol content, offers superior health benefits and complex flavors. VOO, although more processed, still contained moderately high polyphenols, suitable for medium temperature cooking. ROO, which is extensively processed, has lower polyphenol levels, ideal for high temperature cooking but with fewer health benefits. POO, a blend of VOO and ROO, offers a balance of flavor and practicality. Pomace Olive Oil, with the lowest polyphenol content, is used mainly for industrial frying due to its high smoke point. In conclusion, this study emphasizes the importance of choosing the type of olive oil based on its use and health benefits. EVOO is optimal for raw or lightly cooked dishes, VOO for all- purpose cooking, and ROO and Pomace Olive Oil for high temperature applications. This research guides consumers and manufacturers in making the right choice to optimize the health benefits of olive oil.

Abstract

This study explores the psychological fortification offered by the Islamic practices of tawakal (reliance on God) and dzikir (remembrance of God) in addressing modern challenges, such as increased anxiety due to technological advances and complex social needs. Employing a literature review methodology, this research investigates the influence of these practices on mental health and behavioral implications. The selection of peer-reviewed articles published within the last ten years involved databases like PubMed and Google Scholar with keywords related to Islamic spirituality and mental health. This method allowed a comprehensive analysis of contemporary studies, focusing on the therapeutic benefits of tawakal and dzikir in clinical settings. Results indicate that tawakal significantly reduces anxiety by fostering a relinquishing of control and instilling peace of mind, while dzikir enhances emotional stability through its meditative repetition of sacred phrases, promoting relaxation and reducing stress responses. Both practices not only support spiritual well-being but also offer practical coping mechanisms in stressful situations. The conclusion underlines the potential integration of tawakal and dzikir into conventional psychotherapeutic practices. It suggests further exploration into the incorporation of these spiritual elements within mental health frameworks to enhance therapeutic outcomes and patient recovery. This research contributes to the broader discourse on the intersection of spirituality and psychology, highlighting the relevance of traditional spiritual practices in contemporary mental health paradigms.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the impact of incision depth in Sunnah cupping therapy on safety and therapeutic efficacy, with a focus on identifying the optimal incision depth that minimizes risks while maximizing therapeutic benefits. The method used is a literature review, gathering data from scientific databases such as PubMed, Scopus, and Google Scholar using keywords related to cupping therapy, incision depth, and dermatological aspects. The findings reveal that an incision depth of 0.5 mm to 1 mm in the dermis layer not only avoids damage to the deeper hypodermis but is also sufficient for the effective extraction of stagnant blood. This very light incision provides advantages in enhancing blood circulation and facilitating the extraction of stagnant blood necessary in cupping therapy. This approach, involving extremely light incisions, cannot be considered invasive and is highly suitable for enhancing therapy efficacy without compromising patient safety. Further discussion in the study highlights that with the correct incision technique, cupping therapy can become safer and more effective, encouraging significant improvements in immune response and tissue regeneration. The conclusion of this study underscores the importance of standardizing procedures and adequate training for cupping practitioners to ensure safe and effective practices. Further research is recommended to strengthen the evidence related to the effectiveness and safety of cupping therapy and to develop more detailed standard protocols.

Abstract

Sunnah cupping therapy is widely recognized as a traditional treatment believed to eliminate stagnant blood, enhance circulation, and accelerate healing. However, concerns remain regarding wound depth and skin recovery duration, especially in clinical settings. This study aims to systematically review scientific literature on the healing duration of superficial wounds resulting from cupping, factors influencing recovery, and the effectiveness of herbal topical treatments in supporting natural skin regeneration. A systematic literature review was conducted using publications from 2015 to 2025 sourced from PubMed, Scopus, ScienceDirect, and Google Scholar. The analysis focused on non-surgical superficial wounds, post-cupping wound management, and the use of olive oil, black seed oil, and coconut oil in complementary traditional therapy. Findings indicate that cupping incisions typically reach only the epidermis and upper dermis, with a depth of 0.5–1 mm. These minor wounds generally heal within 3 to 7 days, depending on patient age, skin condition, anatomical location, and aftercare quality. The application of topical herbal agents has been shown to enhance healing through anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and regenerative mechanisms. In conclusion, Sunnah cupping can be classified as a safe and non-invasive therapy with a relatively short healing duration. Herbal-based wound care offers a natural, accessible, and effective treatment alternative, supporting the integration of cupping therapy into modern evidence-based complementary medicine. Further development of standardized post-cupping care protocols is recommended to optimize clinical implementation and ensure consistent patient outcomes.

Abstract

Complaining is a common emotional response to illness, yet its impact on healing is rarely examined from a multidisciplinary perspective. This article aims to analyze how complaining influences the recovery process through psychological, Islamic spiritual, and medical lenses. The method used was a literature review with a descriptive qualitative approach. Data were collected from scientific articles published between 2015 and 2024 using Scopus, PubMed, DOAJ, and Google Scholar. Findings reveal that excessive complaining amplifies stress, worsens mental health, and disrupts the immune system. Psychologically, uncontrolled complaints are linked to low emotional resilience. From an Islamic view, patience (shabr) and supplication to God provide spiritual strength and mental stability. Medically, emotional stress raises cortisol levels, negatively impacting tissue healing and immune responses. This study underscores the urgency of a holistic approach that integrates psychological, spiritual, and medical dimensions in healthcare services. It contributes to scientific discourse by offering a model for more humane and comprehensive healthcare. Further empirical studies are recommended to validate this integration in clinical settings.

Abstract

Sunnah cupping (hijamah) is a therapeutic practice rooted in Islamic tradition and widely acknowledged for its health benefits. However, improper sterilization of cupping instruments poses a significant risk of blood-borne infections such as hepatitis B, hepatitis C, and HIV. This study aims to explore the importance of equipment sterilization in sunnah cupping using a literature review approach. The method involves systematic thematic analysis of publications from 2010–2025 covering medical science, Islamic bioethics, and traditional health practices. Findings reveal that proper sterilization is crucial to preventing cross-contamination, and it aligns with Islamic ethical imperatives based on la darar wa la dirar and hifzh al-nafs. The discussion emphasizes the integration of Islamic values with modern medical standards and calls for structured education, practitioner training, and regulatory oversight. In conclusion, sterilization in sunnah cupping is not merely a technical requirement but a moral and religious obligation to ensure patient safety and uphold the integrity of prophetic medicine in the modern healthcare system.

Abstract

Sunnah cupping therapy is widely recognized as part of prophetic medicine with spiritual and therapeutic benefits. However, its implementation often overlooks potential medical emergencies, especially when conducted without proper safety protocols. This study aims to identify types of medical emergencies associated with sunnah cupping therapy through a critical literature review. A descriptive-qualitative approach was used, based on a systematic review of scientific publications from 2010 to 2024 obtained from databases such as PubMed, ScienceDirect, and Google Scholar. The results revealed seven major types of complications in cupping practice: infections (local to systemic), severe bleeding and hematoma, vasovagal and hypovolemic shock, allergic reactions, burns (in fire cupping), neurological responses (epilepsy), and dissociative psychological responses (possession). These complications are primarily caused by the lack of medical screening, limited practitioner training, and absence of emergency handling protocols. The study emphasizes the urgency of integrating Islamic ethical values with emergency medical standards in cupping practice. It recommends enhancing public education, practitioner certification, and clinical regulations to ensure patient safety.
