Abstract

Ecotheology Nuances in Tafsir al-Miṣbah: Alternative Solutions to Environmental Problems in Indonesia. Environmental issues are crucial because they affect everyone. The involvement of religion (theology) in environmental issues is certainly very influential in the religious community of Nusantara. This study aims to present eco-theological nuances in the interpretation (tafsir) of Nusantara. This article focuses on Tafsir al-Miṣbah by M. Quraish Shihab, which is considered more relevant to the modern context and can be used as a representative of the Nusantara interpretation. Using the literature study method with a descriptive analysis approach, this study concludes that according to M. Quraish Shihab, environmental damage cannot be separated from the human spiritual crisis. The universe and all its contents are interrelated and influence each other, rely on, and return to Allah Swt. Human disobedience causes the universe imbalances. The characteristics of nifâq, kufr, zhalim and hubb al-dunyâ resulted in a dull sensitivity to the environment and gave birth to a blind ambition without regard for preserving nature. On the other hand, environmental preservation goes hand in hand with monotheism because monotheism is the basic pillar of earth management. Tauhid will raise awareness so as not to act arbitrarily to nature. Tawhid will raise awareness so as not to act arbitrarily against nature. When related to the Indonesian context, M. Quraish Shihab provides tolerance if environmental damage occurs due to earth management activities, as long as the person concerned always asks for forgiveness and Allah’s mercy.Dewasa ini, lingkungan menjadi isu yang krusial karena berdampak bagi semua orang. Keterlibatan agama (teologi) dalam isu lingkungan tentunya sangat berpengaruh dengan masyarakat Nusantara yang religius. Penelitian ini bertujuan menampilkan nuansa ekoteologi dalam tafsir Nusantara. Untuk memfokuskan penelitian, artikel ini hanya membatasi pada Tafsir al-Miṣbah karya M. Quraish Shihab yang dianggap lebih relevan dengan konteks saat ini dan dapat dijadikan salah satu representatif dari tafsir Nusantara yang populer di kalangan masyarakat Indonesia. Menggunakan metode studi pustaka dengan pendekatan analisis deskriptif, penelitian ini menyimpulkan bahwa menurut M. Quraish Shihab, kerusakan lingkungan tidak dapat dipisahkan dari krisis spiritual manusia. Alam raya dan segala isinya saling berkaitan dan saling mempengaruhi satu sama lain serta bertumpu dan kembali kepada Allah Swt. Kedurhakaan manusia mengakibatkan gangguan keseimbangan alam raya. Sifat nifâq, kufur, zhalim, dan hubb ad-dunyâ mengakibatkan tumpulnya kepekaan terhadap lingkungan dan melahirkan ambisi buta tanpa menghiraukan kelestarian alam. Sebaliknya, pelestarian lingkungan berjalan beriringan dengan ketauhidan karena tauhid merupakan tonggak dasar pengelolaan bumi. Tauhid akan menimbulkan kesadaran agar tidak berlaku sewenang-wenang terhadap alam. Jika dikaitkan dengan konteks ke-Indonesia-an, M. Quraish Shihab memberikan toleransi bahwa jika terkadang terjadi kerusakan lingkungan akibat adanya aktivitas pengelolaan bumi, selama yang bersangkutan senantiasa meminta ampun dan memohon rahmat Allah.

Abstract

This research aims to reveal the relationship between the Quranic text and the story of the Prophet Lut and his people within the early Arab prophetic society. Additionally, it explores the purpose behind presenting this story to the early Arab society known to have no sexual deviations. This research uses library research with qualitative research methods to achieve this purpose. This research focuses on the verses describing the story of the Prophet Lut and his people by referring to Theodor Noldeke’s Meccan-Medinan chronological periodization to obtain the characteristics of each period. This research finds that the story of the Prophet Lut falls into the first, second, and third Meccan periods. The development of Prophet Lut and his people’s narrative in each period aligns with the development of the needs and challenges of the Prophet Muhammad’s preaching. Homosexuality occupied the same position as the shirk in early Arab society because it was against human nature. The story of the Lut people was evidence of God’s power in destroying people who disobey and violate human nature.

Abstract

Water is an essential need for human life and all living things. The community's high demand for water cannot be met because the water crisis is still happening today. A water crisis can be in terms of quantity and quality. This research aims to find the solutions in the Qur'anic and scientific perspective to solve the problem of water quantity and quality crisis in the Qur'anic perspective. This research uses thematic interpretation method (maudhû'î) with scientific interpretation approach. This research concludes water crisis solutions in terms of quantity and quality. The water quantity crisis solutions are divided into two major points. First, optimization of water management (Q.S. al-Ra'd/13: 17) which can be done through saving water (Q.S. al-Isrâ`/17: 26-27, Q.S. al-A'râf/7: 31) and making waterways or drainage (Q.S. Hûd/11: 44). Second, even water distribution (Q.S. al-Qamar/54: 28, Q.S. al-Baqarah/2: 60. Q.S. al-A'râf/7: 160) through the creation of water distribution reservoirs (Q.S. al-Zumar/39: 21) and prohibition of water privatization (Q.S. al-Hijr/15: 22). Meanwhile, the water quality crisis solutions are implied in the Qur'an and supported by scientific theory in five respects. First, reforestation (Q.S. al-An'âm/6: 99 and 141, Q.S. al Ra'd/13: 4, and Q.S. al-Nahl/16: 10-11). Second, watersheds conservation (Q.S. Hûd/11: 61). Third, controlling water pollution (Q.S. al-Ghâsyiyah/88: 12). Fourth, making biopore infiltration holes (Q.S. al-Rûm/30: 41, Q.S. Hûd/11: 37). Fifth, making rainwater harvesting (Q.S. al-Mu'minûn/23: 18).

Abstract

Keragaman dapat menjadi pengikat dalam masyarakat, namun dapat pula menimbulkan percikan yang bermuara pada konflik sosial. Besarnya prasangka dan stigma serta kurangnya toleransi terhadap kelompok yang berbeda, ditengarai dapat berakibat pada kekerasan antarkelompok, sehingga narasi moderasi beragama penting kiranya untuk terus disebarluaskan dan diaktualisasikan dalam kehidupan bermasyarakat. Penelitian ini mengupas konsep moderasi dari sudut pandang agama Islam dan Hindu berdasarkan kitab sucinya. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian pustaka (library research) dengan metode penelitian kualitatif. Sumber primer dari penelitian ini adalah kitab suci umat Islam, yaitu Al-Qur'an dan kitab suci umat Hindu, yakni Weda. Sedangkan sumber sekunder yang digunakan adalah berbagai literatur lain yang relevan dengan penelitian, baik dan bentuk buku maupun artikel jurnal. Penelitian dilakukan dengan menganalisis konsep-konsep moderasi beragama secara umum, beranjak ke moderasi beragama yang dikonseptualisasikan dalam Islam dan Hindu, dengan merujuk kembali kepada kitab suci masing-masing agama, yang kemudian konsep-konsep dari ajaran kedua agama tersebut dikomparasikan untuk mencari titik temu antara keduanya. Prinsip moderasi beragama dalam Al-Qur'an sebagaimana yang dirumuskan oleh Kementerian Agama terdiri dari prinsip keadilan (‘adalah), keseimbangan (tawāzun), dan toleransi (tasāmuh). Sedangkan dalam ajaran Hindu, moderasi beragama diterapkan dalam konsep Tri Hita Kirana, Tat Twam Asi, Wasudewam Kutumbhakam, dan Ahimsa. Narasi moderasi beragama penting untuk terus digaungkan oleh pihak-pihak otoritatif seperti pemerintah, lembaga, dan tokoh-tokoh agama. Diversity can be a bond in society, but it can also cause sparks that lead to social conflict. The amount of prejudice and lack of tolerance towards different groups can result in violence between groups, hence it is important for the narrative of religious moderation to continue to be disseminated and actualized in social life. This research examines the concept of moderation from the perspective of Islam and Hinduism based on their holy books. This research is library research with qualitative research methods. The primary sources for this research are the Muslim holy book (Al-Qur'an) and the Hindu holy book (Veda). Meanwhile, the secondary sources used are various other literature that is relevant to the research, both in the form of books and journal articles. The research was conducted by analyzing the concepts of religious moderation in general, moving on to religious moderation conceptualized in Islam and Hinduism, by referring back to the holy books of each religion, which then compared to find common ground between the two. The principles of religious moderation in the Qur'an consist of the principles of justice ('’adalah), balance (tawāzun), and tolerance (tasāmuh). Meanwhile, in Hinduism, religious moderation is applied in the concepts of Tri Hita Kirana, Tat Twam Asi, Wasudewam Kutumbhakam, and Ahimsa. The narrative of religious moderation is important to be echoed by authoritative parties such as the government, institutions, and religious leaders.
