Abstract

Salah satu obat tradisional yaitu daun binahong merah (Anredera cordifolia). Standardization is process of characteristics and values to guarantee the quality, efficacy, safety, purity of medicinal substances. Red binahong leaves have high content of flavonoids so they can treat various diseases. Standardization is important to guarantee the high quality traditional medicines. This study aims to prove that the red binahong leaf extract (Anredera cordifolia) with different extraction methods produces standardized extract. This study used screening and gravimetric methods. The results showed that the three extracts had standardized specific parameters. The non-specific parameters of the maceration drying shrinkage test 2.40% ; reflux 3.90% ; and 95.38% dekok this shows dekok not according to standard non-specific parameters. Meanwhile, in the maceration water content test 2.64%; reflux 2.96% ; and 95.00% dekok this shows dekok not according to standard non-specific parameters. This research proved that binahong red leaf extract (Anredera cordifolia) with different extraction methods produced standardized extracts with specific and non-specific parameters.

Abstract

Saffron (Crocus sativus L.) is a medicinal plant used as a spice in food, but recent times have shown that has a role in cosmetics. The saffron stigma has antioxidant activity and is useful in cosmetics. Antioxidants can protect the skin from various types of cell damage due to free radicals from ultraviolet light, motor vehicle fumes, chemicals in food, chemicals, and drugs. The antioxidant content of saffron stigma makes it an ingredient in cosmetics such as face mist. Face mist is a cosmetic skin freshener that refreshes facial skin, removes residual oil from the skin, kills some skin microorganisms, and helps close the pores. The aim of this study was to evaluate the antioxidant properties of the saffron face mist. The evaluation of saffron face mist includes an organoleptic test based on odor, color, and shape/texture, a pH test using a universal pH indicator paper, a specific gravity test using a pycnometer, and a moisture test using a skin moisture meter. The saffron stigma antioxidant test was performed using the DPPH assay. The results showed that the face mist had a rose aroma, golden yellow color, and moist form, the specific gravity ranged from 1.0637 to 1.0689 g/mL, the pH was 6, the moisture value of the facial skin after the application of the face mist to the face ranged from 47.77 ± 3.81 – 56.52 ± 0.72 % ...

Abstract

Antioxidants are compounds that have the ability to againts the harmful effects of free radicals. Antioxidant activity was influenced by active compounds, growing environment, cultivation systems, techniques and handling of raw materials. Hydroponics is a plant cultivation system that does not use soil as media. Differences in hydroponic and conventional systems in soil use can affect antioxidant activity. This study aims to conduct a qualitative test of antioxidants through phytochemical screening and analysis of thin layer chromatography (TLC) and to test the antioxidant activity of hydroponic and conventional red spinach leaf extract. Red spinach leaves were extracted by maceration method for 3 days with stirring every 1x24 hours. The red spinach leaf extract was then organoleptically tested for color, shape, and odor. Phytochemical screening was carried out to determine the content of flavonoids and saponins using color and foam reactions. The screening results were confirmed by thin layer chromatography (TLC) analysis with hexane:ethyl acetate as the mobile phase in a ratio of 5:5. Antioxidant activity test with DPPH Method. The results of the calculation of the yield on hydroponic red spinach leaf extract was 11.5% and conventional was 15.1%. The results of phytochemical screening and TLC analysis showed that both hydroponic and conventional red spinach leaf extracts were positive for flavonoid and saponin compounds. The IC50 value of hydroponic red spinach leaf extract was 142.31 while conventional was 73.73 ppm. The antioxidant activity of hydroponic red spinach leaf extract was in the medium category and conventional in the strong category.
