Abstract

Smoking cessation has been widely known as the right step to improve health. However, it has a low success rate. This research aims to identify demographic attributes (age, sex, income, and education), tobacco knowledge and spending and their impacts on smoking cessation intention and attempts in Kalidawir, Tulungagung Districts. A survey of 111 adult smokers is conducted using the GATS questionnaire. The data is analyzed using binary logistic regression. Most respondents, as many as 70 (63.1%), expressed a desire to quit smoking. Meanwhile, 41 respondents (36.9%) had no intention to quit smoking. Unfortunately, less than half, which is 43 (38.7%), had ever tried to quit smoking and more than half of the respondents, as many as 68 (61.3%), stated that they had never tried to quit smoking. Level of education and tobacco spending has a significant impact on intention to quit smoking (p-value 0,018 and p-value 0,024). While age, income, sex and knowledge do not affect the intention to quit smoking (p-value 0,954; p-value 0,145; p-value 0,975; and p-value 0,639). Education income and tobacco spending significantly impact the attempt to quit smoking (p-value 0,001; p-value 0,001 and p-value 0,008). While age, sex and knowledge do not affect the attempt to quit smoking (p-value 0,359; p-value 0,477; and p-value 0,993). Level of education and tobacco spending have significant impacts on intention and attempt to quit smoking while income only has an impact on smoking cessation attempts. The tobacco control program should consider these factors and make more comprehensive interventions.

Abstract

Background: Screening results at the Baron Health Center, Nganjuk Regency showed that the prevalence of anemia in adolescent girls reached 60.89%. Although counseling and provision of iron tablets to increase hemoglobin levels have been carried out, adolescent girls' adherence to iron tablet is still low. Objective: The study aims to see the differences in two educational methods to improve adolescent girls' compliance in consuming iron tablet Method: A total of 201 adolescent girls were divided into 2 different groups. The first group was given education in the form of game cards, while the second group was given combination education cards and animated videos for 2 months each and 2 hours in every session. This study involves teachers as supervisors during intervention. Data was analyzed using the Wilcoxon test to determine the differences before and after treatment. The Mann Whitney test was used to see the difference in effectiveness between the first and second interventions. Results: Both interventions were significantly effective in increasing compliance with taking TTD (p-value each: <0.001) and there was no difference in effectiveness between the two interventions (p-value: 0.856). Conclusion: Interventions of game cards and combinations of game cards and animated videos have the same level of effectiveness in improving iron tablets consumption compliance.

Abstract

Background: The initial report by the Baron Public Health Centre shows low adherence to iron supplementation among schoolgirls. Therefore, there is a need to identify the causing factors of low adherence. Purpose: Identify and analyse knowledge and awareness of iron deficiency and its impacts on adherence to iron supplements. Methods: A Cross-sectional study on 376 female students in the Baron subdistrict. Data were collected using a questionnaire instrument, and data were analysed using binary regression logistics. Results: A Cross-sectional study with stratified random sampling on 376 female students in the Baron subdistrict. Data were collected using a questionnaire instrument, and data were analysed using binary regression logistics. The majority of respondents have sufficient knowledge of iron deficiency. However, they have low awareness and adherence to iron supplementation. Knowledge has no impact on adherence (p-value 0.823), whereas awareness (p-value 0.000) has a significant impact on adherence to iron supplementation. Conclusion: Knowledge has no impact on iron deficiency adherence, while awareness of iron deficiency prevention influences has a strong impact on adherence to iron supplementation adherence. Innovative programs are needed to increase not only knowledge but also awareness and adherence to iron supplements.
