Abstract

Community service activities aim to provide the community with a proper understanding of the law regarding the practice of money politics. The dissemination was conducted on February 8, 2024, at 2:00 PM local time at a coffee shop in Ibuh Village and on February 13, 2024, at 10:00 AM local time at Mitra Vocational School, West Payakumbuh Subdistrict, Payakumbuh City, West Sumatra Province. The purpose of the dissemination is to raise awareness among the community and first-time voters about the dangers of money politics, its forms, potential sanctions, and the process for reporting such criminal acts. The activity has successfully enhanced the community's understanding of the difficulty in proving money politics cases. Conclusions drawn from the community's perceptions include the majority acknowledging the existence of money politics, recognizing it as an electoral crime, and considering it a cultural norm in Indonesia. Factors influencing these perceptions include individuals' experiences with money politics, their knowledge of such practices, and the political climate during elections. While some respondents, particularly those under 20 years old, view money politics as a normal part of elections, they also realize its detrimental effects on the integrity of elections in Indonesia.

Abstract

Self-efficacy is the theory by Bandura (1986), it refers to an individual's belief in their ability to accomplish specific tasks. This study aims to explore undergraduate student’ self-efficacy regarding the levels and perception in writing the final research report. The researcher applied mixed-method to achieve the research objectives. The data were collected through questionnaire and semi-structured interview. The participants were 30 students of English Language Education Undergraduate Program of Universitas Negeri Makassar in the academic year of 2021/2022 to conduct the questionnaire and six students for the interview. The result of the study reveal that most undergraduate students have moderate to high levels of self-efficacy in using artificial intelligence (AI) tools to write final research reports. This result reflects a fairly strong belief in facing academic challenges, particularly in the final research report. Furthermore, the students perceived that they often used artificial intelligence tools with the various types based on their needs. They also perceived that AI contribute to writing the final research report, including generates ideas, solve the language and grammar problems, provide relevant literature, and as a supporting tool but not replace the human effort to thinking. In addition, this study is only limited to one education levels, it is recommended for the next researches to study more participants from different backgrounds and also explore the influence of AI on other aspects.

Abstract

Abstract. Many students feel less self-efficacy in their writing abilities, especially in producing writing that meets academic standards. Bad previous experiences often influence one's approach to writing academic assignments. As a result, students tend to feel anxious, demotivated, or even experience writer's block, which can delay their progress on the final research report. This study examines the impact of artificial intelligence tools on students’ self-efficacy in writing their final research report. This research employed a qualitative approach, utilizing interviews and documentation analysis involving six undergraduate students who completed their final research report using artificial intelligence tools. Findings suggest that utilizing artificial intelligence tools, such as ChatGPT, Grammarly, and DeepL, in the writing of the final research report can enhance students’ self-efficacy. The conclusion affirms that AI tools not only impacts the quality of the writing produced as the medium in the digital era and education, but also the internal processes that shape students' self-efficacy and behaviors in academic writing. Keywords: Self-Efficacy; Artificial Intelligence; Undergraduate Students; Influences; Final Research Report

Abstract

This study is motivated by the persistent weaknesses in the implementation of election supervision during the 2024 General Election in Dumai City, as evidenced by the occurrence of Re-Voting (Pemungutan Suara Ulang/PSU) in nine polling stations. This phenomenon indicates that the preliminary supervision conducted by the General Election Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu) of Dumai City has not been fully effective, particularly in preventing early administrative and technical violations in the field. The purpose of this research is to analyze the implementation of Bawaslu Dumai’s supervisory duties and functions during the 2024 General Election, focusing on the effectiveness of supervision at each stage preliminary, concurrent, and feedback control. This study employs a descriptive qualitative approach with data collected through in-depth interviews and documentation. The analysis is based on Donnelly’s (1996) control theory, which includes three types of supervision: preliminary control, concurrent control, and feedback control, supported by Law Number 7 of 2017 and Bawaslu Regulation Number 5 of 2022 on Election Supervision. The results show that Bawaslu Dumai has generally performed its supervisory duties according to regulations, including prevention, implementation, and enforcement stages. However, preliminary control remains the weakest aspect due to the limited technical training (Bimtek) provided to ad hoc supervisors, weak coordination across supervisory levels, and suboptimal mapping of potential violations. These issues have led to administrative errors that triggered PSU. In conclusion, the implementation of Bawaslu Dumai’s duties during the 2024 General Election has been fairly effective but still requires improvement in preliminary control through capacity building, continuous training, and stronger coordination systems to ensure more credible, fair, and democratic elections in the future. Abstract

This study investigates how netizens express respect toward President Joko Widodo’s government through comments on TikTok, one of the most influential digital platforms used by Indonesian youth. Respect, as a moral and social construct, encompasses both recognition of an individual’s status and appraisal of their actions. Using a qualitative descriptive approach, thirty TikTok comments were purposively selected from five highly viewed accounts discussing Jokowi’s leadership. The data were analyzed through discourse analysis to identify linguistic expressions of recognition respect and appraisal respect in the comments. The findings indicate that netizens display appraisal respect by praising concrete policy outcomes such as pandemic assistance (free electricity credit, food subsidies, and monthly allowances), social welfare programs (BPJS and KIP), and infrastructure development (including toll roads and renewable energy projects). Recognition respect emerges through acknowledgment of Jokowi’s leadership qualities, including sincerity, humility, patience, and simplicity, as well as his symbolic status as a national figure. Emotional expressions, such as sadness toward his retirement and admiration for his legacy, further demonstrate the affective dimension of political respect in digital communities. The results suggest that respect in online political discourse is multidimensional, combining evaluative appreciation of governmental achievements with recognition of leadership identity. This research contributes to understanding how youth-dominated digital spaces construct political respect and provide insight into contemporary perceptions of governance in Indonesia.
