Abstract

The traditional village festival demonstrates the essence of unity values, catalyzing social cohesion within the community. Various cultural manifestations, such as customary deliberations, traditional ceremonies, and local arts performances, signify the underlying social system. This study aims to elucidate the social cohesion among the Kondowa-Dongkala community through the village festival in Buton. Employing a qualitative research method, data were collected through in-depth interviews with key informants, including Parabela Anamohane and local community members actively involved in the festival proceedings. The findings reveal that the village festival is an annual event, preceded by a village deliberation to establish customary laws governing community behavior on land and sea. Conservation efforts are evident in prohibiting marine resource extraction within the kaombo area for one year, followed by communal utilization during the festival. Each night is marked by local art performances featuring traditional drumming and dances by various age groups, underscoring the village festival's cultural richness and social cohesion.

The methods used in this activity are discussion, question and answer and lectures. The purpose of this service on how to reduce plastic waste among young people in the Boulevard Retention Pool is to raise the feelings and awareness of young people in this area so that they can participate in environmental problems caused by plastic waste. Information obtained from this activity shows that young people are actually aware of the importance of maintaining environmental cleanliness and the dangers of plastic waste, but they are not yet accustomed to implementing a lifestyle without the use of plastic. The evaluation carried out at the end of the activity basically revealed that young people are ready to participate in the activity because it strengthens their desire to protect the environment from the impact of plastic waste, and they are still willing to participate in similar activities.

Abstract

Traditional ceremonies can be a characteristic of a society because they are the result of the culture created by that society. This research aims to find out and describe the reasons why the Kalili ritual is still maintained and the process of implementing the Kalili ritual. This research uses a qualitative description method with an ethnographic approach. The results of the research show that the Mokobeau Community still maintains the Kalili ritual to this day. This ritual aims to facilitate the fortunes of married couples, speed up the birth of offspring, and ensure that their children will not fall ill easily in the future. The process of carrying out the Kalili ritual is that the husband carries a toddler belonging to someone else and is male, then followed by ten women who are married and have carried out the Kalili. The Kalili participants will walk around the house seven times, namely to the right four times and to the left three times. The process of going around the house is led by a bhisa. After that, the Kalili participants will go up to the house and continue several ritual processions, namely kabanti carried out by Bhisa, handing over the child to the wife, blowing out candles, fighting over ketupat, and katuturai. The meaning of this procession is that the husband and wife will quickly have children, and the good fortune they get will continue to be distributed.

Abstract

The advent of globalization has resulted in changes in people's lifestyles that are more modern, resulting in people being more inclined to choose new cultures that are considered more practical than local cultures. One of the factors causing local culture to be forgotten nowadays is the lack of future generations who have an interest in learning and inheriting their culture. Therefore, the aim of writing this article is to explain the community's efforts to strengthen social status through the cultural heritage of the Mekongga kingdom. The data collection technique used in this research is Snowball Sampling through observation participation and in-depth interviews. This type of qualitative research uses ethnographic research methods. The results of this research show that the people in Wundulako District, known as the Mekongga people, strengthen their social status through the cultural heritage of the Mekongga Kingdom, namely by carrying out death ceremonies, Wonua mosehe cultural rituals, mesosambakai cultural rituals, mosehe cultural rituals within the royal family, and through Mekongga cultural games, namely Mepae-pae Festival with traditional game competitions such as Metinggo (engrang), Mehule (Gasing), Mebaguli (candlenut kernel marbles), and Mesuke (picking and hitting the stem).
