Abstract

The traditional village festival demonstrates the essence of unity values, catalyzing social cohesion within the community. Various cultural manifestations, such as customary deliberations, traditional ceremonies, and local arts performances, signify the underlying social system. This study aims to elucidate the social cohesion among the Kondowa-Dongkala community through the village festival in Buton. Employing a qualitative research method, data were collected through in-depth interviews with key informants, including Parabela Anamohane and local community members actively involved in the festival proceedings. The findings reveal that the village festival is an annual event, preceded by a village deliberation to establish customary laws governing community behavior on land and sea. Conservation efforts are evident in prohibiting marine resource extraction within the kaombo area for one year, followed by communal utilization during the festival. Each night is marked by local art performances featuring traditional drumming and dances by various age groups, underscoring the village festival's cultural richness and social cohesion.

Abstract

This community service activity was carried out with the aim of enhancing the capacity of women weavers to support the development of the creative economy in Lanto Village, Mawasangka Tengah District, Central Buton Regency through motif design training. The background of this activity is based on the limited innovation in traditional weaving motifs, which tend to be repetitive and insufficiently represent the rich visual elements of the local environment. The method used was participatory, involving several stages: coordination and field survey, socialization and identification of natural potentials, motif design training, implementation of the designs into woven fabrics, and evaluation. The activity engaged 11 artisans from the Dasawisma Ar-Rahman group, with training conducted over five days, three hours per day. The results showed a significant improvement in design understanding and skills, and the successful creation of six new motifs, three of which were ready for application in woven products. The activity also fostered increased awareness and enthusiasm among the artisans to continue innovating. In conclusion, this training effectively empowered women weavers by strengthening creativity rooted in local wisdom, with strong potential to support cultural preservation and the development of the community-based creative economy.

Abstract

The advent of globalization has resulted in changes in people's lifestyles that are more modern, resulting in people being more inclined to choose new cultures that are considered more practical than local cultures. One of the factors causing local culture to be forgotten nowadays is the lack of future generations who have an interest in learning and inheriting their culture. Therefore, the aim of writing this article is to explain the community's efforts to strengthen social status through the cultural heritage of the Mekongga kingdom. The data collection technique used in this research is Snowball Sampling through observation participation and in-depth interviews. This type of qualitative research uses ethnographic research methods. The results of this research show that the people in Wundulako District, known as the Mekongga people, strengthen their social status through the cultural heritage of the Mekongga Kingdom, namely by carrying out death ceremonies, Wonua mosehe cultural rituals, mesosambakai cultural rituals, mosehe cultural rituals within the royal family, and through Mekongga cultural games, namely Mepae-pae Festival with traditional game competitions such as Metinggo (engrang), Mehule (Gasing), Mebaguli (candlenut kernel marbles), and Mesuke (picking and hitting the stem).
