Abstract

The end of the 20th century, methodology was no longer the determining factor of whether language teaching was successful or unsuccessful in mainstream settings. In the 1990s, some ELT practitioners, teachers and theorists expressed their unhappiness with approaches and techniques when the concept of method was questioned. The purpose of this study is to find out how methodology pedagogy affects English teaching strategies. This research was A literature study research methodology is used in this investigation. In a literary study, information is gathered through reading and taking notes, and then the information is processed using the predetermined concepts. and do a study of theories in order to identify a concept using the approach of classifying the theory and research into a concept after studying the categorical portion of the theory. The findings show that learning a language invites educators and learners to explore the vast and intriguing world of limitless opportunities. In order to travel a satisfying path for both teachers and learners in the post-method era, educators must be aware of specific ways in addition to the essential elements mentioned above. Teachers and students need to be active participants in the creation of knowledge as a result of the transition from method-based to post-method classroom practices. Teachers should encourage students to explore their identity, context, emotional and cognitive factors, and ELT methods, rather than dictating their actions. This approach allows for better decision-making and allows for repeatability in case of mistakes.

Abstract

Background of the problem: Reading comprehension is a fundamental skill in learning, yet many students have difficulty in mastering it. Conventional learning methods are often less effective in increasing student engagement, so innovative learning models are needed. Purpose: To examine the effectiveness of STAD learning model in improving students' reading comprehension in grade VII at junior school South Halmahera. Method: This study used pre-experiment method with one-group pre-test and post-test design. The research sample consisted of 30 students, who were selected using cluster sampling techniques. Data was collected through reading comprehension tests before and after the application of the STAD model. Data analysis was conducted using t-test to measure the significance of differences in pre-test and post-test results. Result: The pre-test mean score was 55.30, while the post-test mean score increased to 77.40. The t-test result (19.55) was greater than the t-table (1.699) at a significant level of 0.05 with a degree of freedom (df) of 29. This shows that there is a significant increase in reading comprehension after the application of the STAD model. Implication: The results of this study indicate that the STAD learning model can be used as an effective strategy to improve students' reading comprehension. Therefore, it is recommended for educators to apply this model in learning to improve student learning outcomes, as well as develop further research to see its effectiveness in other subjects.

Abstract

The erosion of regional and minority languages among youth has emerged as a significant issue in multilingual society, especially where prevailing national or global languages eclipse local linguistic traditions. This study seeks to rigorously analyze the psycholinguistic aspects of language maintenance, emphasizing the interplay between internal mechanisms such as working memory, phonological awareness, and motivation, and external factors like input quality and social context in influencing children's retention of their heritage language. This study utilizes a critical review methodology to synthesize data from peer-reviewed studies published in high-impact journals from 2010 to 2022, focusing on psycholinguistics, bilingualism, and language acquisition. The approach delineates four principal themes: cognitive retention mechanisms, the significance of consistent and emotionally resonant input, affective and motivating factors, and the critical function of sociocognitive interactional situations. The results indicate that language maintenance is a dynamic, multimodal process shaped by individual cognitive abilities and the emotional and social contexts of language usage. These results necessitate the development of more comprehensive theoretical models and context-specific therapies that consider both linguistic exposure and the cognitive and emotional experiences of young language users. The research enhances comprehension of language sustainability and provides actionable insights for educators, families, and policymakers involved in language revitalization initiatives.

Abstract

Language and music, although conventionally viewed as separate cognitive domains, exhibit same brain underpinnings and processing methods. Recent studies have commenced investigating the impact of emotional music, especially melancholic compositions, on linguistic cognition; nonetheless, this intersection remains little explored. This study rigorously evaluates empirical evidence about the influence of melancholic music on cerebral language processing, with the objective of consolidating existing knowledge and pinpointing theoretical and methodological deficiencies. The study employs a qualitative critical review methodology, utilizing peer-reviewed literature from cognitive neuroscience, psycholinguistics, and affective science, with an emphasis on research that incorporates neuroimaging, behavioral trials, and electrophysiological metrics. The results indicate that melancholic music activates brain areas associated with emotional regulation and language processing, such as the inferior frontal gyrus, superior temporal gyrus, and limbic structures. Exposure to melancholic music seems to augment semantic depth and emotional resonance in language understanding, while possibly hindering performance in tasks necessitating fast syntactic or phonological processing. The effects are influenced by the type of activity and individual variances, including empathy and musical training. The research enhances the comprehension of the emotional aspects of language processing and underscores the utility of emotionally evocative music in educational and therapeutic settings. It also advocates for more ecologically valid, longitudinal, and multimodal research to further clarify these intricate relationships.

Abstract

This research examines the ways in which Indonesian local literary narratives formulate and perpetuate cultural identity amid globalizations. It specifically examines the symbolic representations in Entrok by Okky Madasari and Laut Bercerita by Leila S. Chudori through Roland Barthes’ semiotic framework, focusing on denotation, connotation, and myth. The study utilizes a qualitative text analysis approach, relying on comprehensive readings of the novels and supplemented by secondary literature. Symbols like the Entrok (a traditional Javanese brassiere) and the sea are identified and coded using a deductive method based on Barthes’ categories. The results show that Entrok criticizes patriarchal control and class-based oppression by changing the meaning of everyday objects. “Laut Bercerita,” on the other hand, shows the sea as a sacred place of ecological awareness and collective resistance. These symbols function on various semiotic levels, demonstrating literature’s role as a medium for cultural negotiation and ideological critique. The research finds that Indonesian local literature is essential for maintaining cultural resilience and identity development, providing educators and policymakers with effective methods to enhance cultural awareness through storytelling.
