Abstract

This research aims to understand the role of situational leadership in the aviation industry and how this can contribute to safety and operational efficiency. The aviation industry is a dynamic and complex sector, requiring effective management in facing various challenges and exploiting opportunities. One approach that has proven effective in this industry is situational leadership, where the leader adapts his leadership style to the team's level of readiness and competency in dealing with a particular situation. The research method used is Systematic Literature Review (SLR), by collecting data from various previous studies to understand best practices in situational leadership that can be applied in the aviation industry. The research results show that situational leadership can help improve flight safety with appropriate responses to emergency or stressful situations that arise during flights. Additionally, by adapting his or her leadership style to suit different operational situations, leaders can guide teams more effectively, increasing overall operational efficiency. In conclusion, situational leadership can be an effective tool in improving safety and operational efficiency in the aviation industry. By understanding and implementing best practices in situational leadership, airlines can optimize their performance and maintain a competitive position in the marketplace.

Abstract

This study explores the impact of leadership on aviation operation safety through a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) method. In the aviation industry, safety is a top priority that requires contributions from all employees and effective leadership. Safety leadership is defined as the ability of leaders to promote a safety culture through consistent actions, communication, and policies. This research aims to determine whether leadership has a significant impact on aviation operation safety and to identify influential leadership factors. SLR was chosen for its ability to provide a comprehensive and evidence-based evaluation of existing literature, thereby reducing researcher bias. The search process was conducted using Google Scholar, Research Gate, and Science Direct, with the keywords "Leadership in aviation" and "Leadership in aviation for safety" for the period 2018-2024. Out of 13 journals found, from the 13 journals identified, 10 met the inclusion criteria, and 7 were selected following a quality assessment. The findings indicate that leadership significantly affects aviation operation safety, with key leadership factors including member empowerment, trust in leaders, critical communication, making data-driven decisions, and promoting leadership and safety culture. Focusing on these factors, leadership can enhance aviation operation safety by increasing awareness and implementing effective safety practices.

Abstract

This research examines the importance of Human Resource (HR) competencies in the rapidly growing aviation industry in Indonesia, highlighting the need for improved flight services and operations. HR competencies encompassing knowledge, skills, attitudes and personal values are needed, with a focus on HR management functions vital to operational success. The research found that the market demand for vocational college graduates is high, especially for those with relevant licenses and certifications. Stakeholder satisfaction with the performance and quality of graduates is high, determined by the relevance of the curriculum, quality of training, and field work experience. Minimum expected skill standards include communication skills, critical thinking, leadership, safety awareness and interpersonal skills. Recommendations include aligning the curriculum with industry needs, developing soft skills, and integrating the latest technology in learning to prepare graduates for the challenges of the aviation industry.

Abstract

The aviation industry in the Industry 4.0 era requires professionals with both technical proficiency and psychological adaptability. This study examines how learning agility and life satisfaction predict academic performance among first-year Air Traffic Control cadets at semi-military aviation colleges in Indonesia. Using a quantitative correlational design with a total population sample (N = 23), data were collected through the Learning Agility Scale for Students (α = 0.89) and the Satisfaction with Life Scale (α = 0.87). Multiple regression analysis showed that both variables explained 56% of the variance in academic performance (R² = 0.56, f² = 1.27). Result agility emerged as the strongest predictor, emphasizing goal orientation and perseverance in high-pressure learning environments. Life satisfaction also significantly influenced academic achievement, highlighting the role of well-being in sustaining motivation. The findings extend learning agility theory and suggest integrating resilience, soft skills, and well-being programs into aviation vocational curricula to enhance performance and readiness.

Abstract

Ensuring client satisfaction is a crucial aspect of the aviation industry that determines the success of airline operations. To retain and attract customers, airlines must provide services that encourage loyalty and appeal to potential passengers, such as those of Garuda Indonesia Airlines. Several factors influence customer satisfaction, including ticket fares, service quality, and baggage handling. This study aims to examine the extent to which these three variables affect the satisfaction levels of Garuda Indonesia passengers departing from Juanda International Airport, Surabaya. A quantitative strategy was used, and information was gathered using a Likert-scale questionnaire. After removing outliers, 96 valid responses were analyzed. The three variables have a considerable impact on passenger satisfaction, as demonstrated by the regression analysis’s 90.8% Adjusted R Square result. In comparison, the remaining 9.2% is explained by additional elements not covered in this research. The results are expected to serve as recommendations for evaluating and improving Garuda Indonesia’s service performance at Juanda International Airport. Overall, this research contributes to enhancing airline strategies aimed at maximizing service effectiveness, strengthening competitiveness in the aviation sector, and expanding academic understanding of the connection between flight fares, service quality, baggage handling, and customer satisfaction.
