Abstract

The community service program on child nutrition education aimed at preventing stunting in Desa Gunung Geulis sought to address the high prevalence of stunting due to nutritional issues. Initial situation analysis revealed that 40% of children in the village experienced stunting, with 70% of parents having limited knowledge about balanced nutrition. Based on these findings, comprehensive and easily understandable educational materials and training modules were developed, covering essential information on balanced nutrition, types of nutritious foods, and methods for preparing and presenting healthy meals using local ingredients. The outreach and training were conducted at three strategic locations and attended by 150 parents and caregivers, employing interactive and practical methods. Follow-up support and monitoring over three months showed that 80% of the families improved their children’s nutritional intake. The final evaluation indicated a significant increase in parental knowledge about nutrition from 30% to 85% and a reduction in stunting prevalence from 10% to 8% within six months. These results demonstrate that a structured, community-based educational approach effectively enhances nutritional knowledge and reduces stunting, significantly impacting child well-being in Desa Gunung Geulis.

Abstract

Strengthening digital skills among teachers in STEM-based learning is an urgent need in the digital age, especially in Madrasah Tsanawiyah (MTs) environments, which often lag in technology adoption. Although constructivist learning theory emphasizes the importance of integrating technology into education, the reality shows that many teachers still struggle to implement this approach effectively. Therefore, this community service program aims to empower MTs teachers through intensive training and ongoing mentoring in the use of block-based coding applications for STEM education. The program employs a social engineering approach involving needs surveys, training, implementation workshops, and performance evaluation. The results indicate significant improvements in teachers’ skills and knowledge, with 85% of teachers showing enhanced abilities in designing STEM lessons, 89% in knowledge of block-based coding applications, and 83% in skills to create projects using these applications. In conclusion, the training successfully bridges the gap between theory and practice, though challenges such as infrastructure limitations and varying levels of initial understanding remain barriers that need to be addressed through sustained support and further development.

Abstract

The digital era requires children to acquire digital literacy skills from an early age, yet the digital divide remains a major challenge in rural areas. This article describes the implementation of the Pojok Literasi Arjuna (Arjuna Literacy Corner) in Sukaharja Village, Cijeruk District, Bogor Regency, as a community-based collaborative effort to improve children’s digital literacy. The method applied was a community participatory approach consisting of needs assessment, program design, implementation, and evaluation stages. The subjects were 30 children at the elementary to junior high school level, supported by teachers, village cadres, parents, youth organizations, and the village government. The results show a significant improvement in children’s digital literacy. Quantitatively, the average score increased from 56.7 to 78.5, representing a 38.4% improvement. The most notable progress was in identifying credible information sources (45%) and the use of learning applications (42%), while productive skills such as creating digital presentations improved by 30%. Qualitative findings revealed that children became more confident in using digital devices for learning, and parents reported a positive behavioral shift as children increasingly used the internet for educational purposes. Teachers and village cadres served as facilitators adapting the materials to local contexts, while youth organizations acted as role models in the healthy use of digital media. These findings confirm that community collaboration can establish a sustainable digital literacy ecosystem in rural areas. The program not only enhanced children’s digital skills but also strengthened community participation and holds potential for replication in other villages as a community-based empowerment model supporting the achievement of the SDGs.

The program was designed using a community-based education approach that actively involved village officials, teachers, literacy cadres, schools, and parents. The implementation stages included needs assessment, literacy corner revitalization, cadre training, weekly creative literacy activities, and collaboration with schools and families. The results showed a significant improvement in facilities, with the reading collection increasing from 46 to 110 books, accompanied by a child-friendly spatial arrangement. Twelve literacy cadres successfully enhanced their facilitation skills, with an 88% increase in post-training understanding. Weekly literacy activities attracted more participation, with the number of children rising from an average of 7 to 25 per week. Quantitative evaluation involving 30 children indicated a 38.4% increase in reading comprehension scores (from 56.7 to 78.5). Qualitatively, children demonstrated positive behavioral changes, such as borrowing books more frequently, confidently retelling stories, and showing greater curiosity. Collaboration with schools and parents further strengthened sustainability, with 73% of parents starting to read with their children at home compared to only 27% before the program. These findings demonstrate that a community-based literacy corner can serve as an effective model for fostering a sustainable literacy culture in rural areas.
