Abstract

The use of natural dyes for batik in recent years, apart from being a trend, has also become an alternative solution to the ongoing environmental issues. For specific crafter communities, natural dyes can be a challenge that raises new obstacles due to their special treatment compared to the easier synthetic dyes. Another concern is losing the distinct character of a region's batik. This research tries to mediate these challenges by retrieving the 2017 research on color mapping of three centers of batik tulis in Batang district. The mapping resulted in a distinct color scheme and how it is equivalent to natural colors. To show the possibility of using natural dyes without losing the distinct regional character, the color mapping was followed by a color schemes test. The findings of this research result in the use of natural colors whose intensity tends to be reduced compared to synthetic dyes, so the colors tend to be fainter and softer. Thus, batik with natural dyes has provided new diversification for the batik and added new skills for the crafters.

Abstract

The continuous development of technology and information flow has brought about significant shifts in the dynamics of life, including changes in culture, values, and social norms in today's era. This transformation also impacts the fashion industry, which is an integral part of society's appearance and lifestyle. The phenomenon of genderless fashion trends exemplifies a significant change in the contemporary fashion landscape. Genderless fashion expands perspectives on gender and creates space for individual expression without rigid gender boundaries. However, in Indonesia, this trend faces challenges in acceptance by a society that predominantly adheres to patrilineal cultural values. Through a qualitative phenomenological research approach, this study aims to design and generate recommendations for genderless fashion clothing forms that are responsive and relevant based on the analysis of preferences and gender perceptions among young adults in Indonesia. Additionally, this research aims to identify and evaluate factors influencing the acceptance of genderless fashion clothing among young adults in Indonesia, particularly concerning the essence and role of genderless fashion trends. By considering issues such as ethics, sustainability, and inclusion, this research is expected to provide insights into the industry regarding the relevance and urgency of these issues amid current social developments and fashion trends. Thus, this research is expected not only to contribute to the academic domain but also to serve as a bridge for educating and fostering open dialogue among the wider society and unraveling its current complexities. The findings of this research will provide significant benefits to researchers, academics, designers, the fashion industry, and society as a whole. It is hoped that this research will serve as a valuable guide in designing more inclusive and relevant genderless fashion clothing aligned with current social values and fashion trends, thereby enhancing understanding and acceptance of the genderless fashion concept in Indonesia.

Abstract

Ragam hias batik merupakan identitas warisan budaya tak benda di Indonesia yang menjadi kebanggan masing-masing sentra. Sebagian besar penerapan ragam hias dalam praktik desain pada media digital hanya meminjamnya sebagai konten atau elemen visual semata, karya tersebut tidak memenuhi kaidah sebagai karya batik tradisi. Batik Madura (maduraan) memiliki karakter khas yang dikenal dengan penggambaran hewan, tanaman akar-akaran, juga gori (isen-isen) yang menarik untuk dieksplorasi menembus batas dunia kriya tekstil tradisional beralih menjadi karya animasi digital. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengidentifikasi visual ragam hias batik maduraan sebagai aset visual karya Animateutik (animasi batik tulis); mendefinisikan dan merumuskan model “Batik Digital Indonesia”; dan menerapkan model tersebut melalui inovasi desain Animateutik. Penelitian dilakukan menggunakan metodologi kualitatif dengan kajian pustaka untuk merumuskan definisi dan model batik digital Indonesia, serta pendekatan perancangan desain (design action) untuk mewujudkan Animateutik bergaya maduraan. Penelitian menghasilkan rumusan definisi dan model “Batik Digital Indonesia” dan karya inovasi desain berupa Animateutik (animasi batik tulis) bergaya maduraan yang berperan strategis memperluas inovasi, sinergi interdisiplin, dan memberikan alternatif peluang pengembangan antara ranah kriya batik tulis tradisional dengan media digital.
