Abstract

Knee pain is a disorder that affects the articular cartilage, subchondral bone, synovium, joint capsule, and ligaments. The prognosis for knee pain can be good if the disease can be found in the early stages of damage. Until now, no cure has been found that can definitely cure knee pain and this disease often causes interference in daily activities. This research uses a quantitative type of research with a Quasi-Experimental research design with a two groups pre and post-test design. To measure the degree of pain, knee pain was measured using the NRS (Numeric Rating Scale). The total sample was 36 sufferers according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria in Ngrambe Village, Ngawi Regency. Then treated with a combination of herbal clove oil (Syzygium aromaticum) and local point acupuncture therapy. Combination therapy of clove oil   (Syzygium aromaticum) with acupuncture is effective in reducing the scale of knee pain in Ngrambe Village, Ngawi Regency.

Abstract

Gastritis easily attacks teenagers because of the high academic and is characterized by stomach pain, nausea, and vomiting. Complementary therapies that can be used for gastritis are acupuncture and warm compresses. Acupuncture stimulates the autonomic nerves to inhibit sympathetic stimulation so that vasodilation occurs. Warm compresses can relax muscles, so they can reduce gastritis pain. Research purposes to determine the effectiveness of acupuncture therapy and a combination of warm compresses on the gastritis pain scale in female students at SMAIT Ibnu Abbas Klaten. This research used Quasi Experiment Design with the two groups pretest-posttest design method and Purposive Sampling technique, with a total sample of 34 research subject. The points used are ST 36, PC 6, CV 12, and SP 6, and the warm compress using a water bag at a temperature of 37-40°???? for 15 minutes. Research was conducted at SMAIT Ibnu Abbas Klaten in February–March 2024. The Paired T-test for both groups has p<0.001. Acupuncture therapy and warm compresses are more effective because they have a mean value of 3.294, while the mean value of the acupuncture therapy group is 2.941. Acupuncture therapy and warm compresses combination are effective in reducing the gastritis pain scale.

Abstract

Background: Osteoarthritis (OA) is a degenerative disease of the joints that commonly occurs in the hands, waist, a. nd knees. One of the efforts to control OA is with acupuncture. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of the combination of acupuncture and turmeric herbs on reducing the levels of total protein, albumin, and globulin in OA patients. Subjects and Method: The Randomized Controlled Trial (RCT) study was conducted at Redy Clinical Laboratory in August 2024. A total of 50 patients with OA were divided into two groups: (1) Intervention group of combination of acupuncture and turmeric herbs (n= 25); and (2) The control group was given acupuncture (n=25). The dependent variables are total protein, albumin, and globulin. The independent variable was a combination of acupuncture and turmeric herbs. The difference in the average increase in protein, albumin, and globulin levels in each group was analyzed using the Independent test. Results: The average protein level in the combination group of acupuncture therapy and turmeric herbs (Mean= 8.40; SD= 0.27) was higher than the control group (Mean= 7.74; SD= 0.33), and this result was statistically significant (p <0.001). The average albumin level in the combination group of acupuncture therapy and turmeric herbs (Mean= 5.07; SD= 0.49) was higher than the control group (Mean= 4.84; SD= 0.66), but this result was statistically insignificant (p= 0.156). The average globulin levels in the combination group of acupuncture therapy and turmeric herbs (Mean= 3.41; SD= 0.88) were higher than the control group (Mean= 3.17; SD= 0.65), but this result was statistically insignificant (p = 0.280). Conclusion: The combination of acupuncture therapy and turmeric herbs is effective in increasing total protein, albumin, and globulin levels in OA patients.

Abstract

Neck pain is one of the musculoskeletal disorders due to several causative factors, one of which is ergonomic factors at work. Electroacupuncture and gua sha therapy have been widely used as alternative treatment methods to help reduce pain and improve functional ability in neck pain. This study aims to determine the effect of electroacupuncture and gua sha on reducing pain scale and neck disability. This study employed a double-blind randomized controlled trial (RCT) with a true experimental design. A total of 34 subjects were selected using simple random sampling from a population of 40, with 6 additional participants prepared as reserves. The intervention group received electroacupuncture at points GB 20 (Fengchi), GB 21 (Jianjing), and Gua Sha, while the control group received only electroacupuncture at GB 20 and GB 21. Pain intensity and neck disability were measured using the Numeric Rating Scale (NRS) and Neck Disability Index (NDI) before and after 10 sessions of therapy. Data were analyzed using univariate and bivariate tests, including tests of normality, homogeneity, and hypothesis testing, to assess the effectiveness of the interventions. Both the intervention group (electroacupuncture combined with Gua Sha) and the control group (electroacupuncture only) showed a significant reduction in pain intensity and neck disability, as measured by the NRS and NDI scores (p < 0.05). However, the reduction was greater in the intervention group, indicating a more pronounced effect when Gua Sha was added to electroacupuncture therapy. combination of electroacupuncture with Gua Sha provides greater clinical benefits compared to electroacupuncture alone

Abstract

Low back pain is a musculoskeletal disorder caused by abnormalities or dysfunctions in the muscles and tendons, often triggered by excessive physical activity or work that demands high energy and muscle strength, thereby increasing the risk of musculoskeletal injury. This study aimed to determine the effect of acupuncture therapy combined with moxibustion on changes in pain scale among patients with low back pain in Mekarjaya Village, Indramayu Regency. Using a quasi-experimental design with two groups (pretest–posttest), 32 subjects were divided into an acupuncture-only group and an acupuncture plus moxibustion group. Pain intensity was measured using the Numeric Rating Scale (NRS) before and after the intervention, and data were analyzed using the Mann–Whitney and Wilcoxon tests. The results showed a significant decrease in NRS pain scores after the intervention in both groups (p < 0.050). The Mann–Whitney test revealed a significant difference between the two groups (p = 0.001), with the combination therapy group showing a greater reduction in pain than the acupuncture-only group. Thus, acupuncture therapy combined with moxibustion is more effective than acupuncture therapy alone in reducing low back pain and may serve as an effective complementary approach for managing this condition.
