Abstract

This study aims (1) to determine the ability to present biography text in class X SMA Swasta Katolik Budi Murni 2 Medan with expository learning model; (2) to determine the ability to present biography text in class X SMA Swasta Katolik Budi Murni 2 Medan with talking stick learning model assisted by audio visual media; (3) to determine the effect of talking stick learning model assisted by audio visual media on the ability to present biography text in class X SMA Swasta Katolik Budi Murni 2 Medan. The population in this study were all grade X students of SMA Swasta Katolik Budi Murni 2 Medan which amounted to 246 students. The samples in this study were students of class X-2 as the experimental class and X-3 as the control class, each totaling 34 students. This study used a quasi-experimental method. In this study, the research design used was two group post-test only control design using a quantitative approach. The research instrument used was a performance test in the form of a post-test presenting a national hero.  The results showed (1) The ability to present biography text in class X SMA Swasta Katolik Budi Murni 2 Medan with the expository learning model was classified in the sufficient category with an average score of 69.21; (2) The ability to present biography text in class X SMA Swasta Katolik Budi Murni 2 Medan with the talking stick learning model assisted by audio-visual media was classified in the good category with an average score of 82.59; (3) There was a significant difference in average scores between the experimental class and the control class which indicated that the talking stick learning model was more effective in improving the ability to present biography text in class X SMA Swasta Katolik Budi Murni 2 Medan. Through hypothesis testing, T_hitung = 8.26 and T_table = 1.99 were obtained. Thus it can be concluded that T_hitung > T_table is 8.26> 1.99 so that H_0 is rejected and H_1 is accepted, meaning that there is an effect of using the talking stick learning model assisted by audio-visual media on the ability to present biographical text in class X SMA Swasta Katolik Budi Murni 2 Medan.

Abstract

This study aims to describe discource analysis in the social media account of an influencer named Gitasav about childfree. Gitasav's statement on her Instagram was analyzed using the Norman Fairclough (1989) discourse analysis model. This research is qualitative descriptive research, namely research that aims to describe a phenomenon. The data in this study were collected using the read and note method. The data collected will pass three dimensional concept in it; text analysis, discource practice, and sociocultural practice. The result of this study describe discource based on text analysis, discursive practice and sociocultural pratices. Based on the text analysis, that is the ideology which revealed that woman who have children would be the one who was disadvantaged in a household. Based on the analysis of discursive practice, the ideology built in these comments was not fully accepted by society. This reflected the public's response to children's free thought which was not commonly heard in Indonesia. Based on the analysis of sociocultural practices, the childfree discourse uploaded by Gitasav, social life and the thick patriarchal system in Indonesia played a major role in the emergence of public discourse regarding Gitasav's comments.

Abstract

Culture is a system that lives in society and covers all aspects of human life, from the way of life to the way of thinking. Humans, as creatures who are cultured and knowledgeable, produce literature as a form of expression that expresses reality in writing using elements of beauty. All the treasures of human culture are always based on philosophy or philosophy which is used as the basis and means to achieve true truth. This study aims to analyze the depiction of culture in a novel through the perspective of feminist philosophy and evaluate whether the portrayal of women in social life still occupies an inferior position. This study uses a qualitative approach with a focus on the discourse analysis of the novel, with the aim of describing how women are portrayed in the story and how they are perceived by society. From the results of the research and analysis conducted, it is found that the women in this novel are able to show their freedom, courage, strength, and struggle. However, there are still narratives showing the weakness of women. Nevertheless, the men in the novel recognize that women have an important role in social life and should not be considered as second-class human beings.
