Abstract

Efficient and accurate school attendance is paramount for the seamless operation of educational institutions. This research focuses on enhancing attendance systems by implementing an Internet of Things (IoT)-based solution with Radio-Frequency Identification (RFID) technology at SMK Putra Anda Binjai. The study employs an experimental design, dividing students and teachers into control and experimental groups. The control group retains the conventional attendance system, while the experimental group adopts the IoT-based RFID technology. The research encompasses careful sample selection, integrating hardware and software tools, and automated data collection procedures. Findings highlight the system's benefits, such as improved efficiency, real-time monitoring, and enhanced accuracy. Challenges, including initial implementation hurdles and technical glitches, are also identified. A comparison with conventional systems underscores the superiority of the IoT-based RFID technology, showcasing higher accuracy and time efficiency. The positive impact on the academic atmosphere aligns with literature emphasizing technology's role in advancing learning environments. This research signifies a transformative initiative in school attendance, offering insights into the potential of technologically advanced educational settings. Continuous refinement is essential for maximizing benefits and addressing real-world educational challenges.

Abstract

This study aims to design and develop a web-based Geographic Information System (GIS) using the prototype method as a development approach to enhance tourism appeal. The system is designed to provide interactive, accessible, and relevant information about tourist locations, thereby supporting more effective tourism promotion. The prototype method allows for rapid design iterations between developers and stakeholders, enabling user needs to be identified and well-accommodated. The system is equipped with key features such as location search based on name or category, an interactive map supporting route navigation and location markers, as well as a responsive interface for various devices, including desktops, tablets, and smartphones. System testing was conducted using the Black Box Testing method, focusing on functionality without examining the internal structure. Testing results indicate that all key system features perform according to specifications and provide a positive user experience. Moreover, the system is capable of displaying tourist location information accurately, responsively, and attractively, thereby increasing tourists' interest in visiting. The web-based Geographic Information System developed through this research is expected to serve as an effective tool for promoting tourism and contributing positively to the growth of the tourism sector. Future development may include additional features such as user reviews, social media integration, and optimal route predictions based on real-time traffic conditions.

Abstract

Modern technology has developed rapidly, providing various solutions to facilitate activities and work. The Medan City Cooperatives and Small and Medium Enterprises (UKM) Service, which handles various complaints from the public regarding SME services, still uses manual methods in its complaint process. This manual method often causes various problems, such as delays in handling complaints and difficulties in monitoring complaint status. To overcome these problems, this study aims to design and build a website-based virtual public complaint service system application. This study uses data collection methods through observation, interviews, and documentation. In developing the application, the Personal Home Page (PHP) method is applied because of its flexibility in handling changing needs during the development process. Direct communication with clients is the main focus in this method. This application was developed using Visual Studio Code as an editor, and MySQL as a database, thus accelerating the application development process. The results of this study are in the form of a public complaint information system application that can facilitate the public and the Medan City Cooperatives and Small and Medium Enterprises Service in managing and responding to complaints effectively

Abstract

Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Pematang Serai Village hold significant potential for local economic development, yet they face challenges in establishing a strong brand identity to support digital marketing efforts. This study aims to design logos as visual representations of MSME brand images using the Human Centered Design (HCD) approach, involving both business owners and consumers directly in the design process. The research was conducted through the three main phases of HCD: Inspiration, Ideation, and Implementation. In the Inspiration phase, observations and interviews were conducted with MSME actors and local consumers to explore their needs and visual preferences. During the Ideation phase, several logo design concepts were developed based on the insights gathered and evaluated through focus group discussions. Finally, in the Implementation phase, the finalized logo was applied to digital media such as product packaging and social media platforms. The results show that logos incorporating local cultural elements, natural color palettes, and simple typography can enhance product appeal and convey professionalism in the eyes of consumers. The HCD approach proves effective in producing logos that are not only visually attractive but also emotionally and functionally representative of the product identity. This study contributes to strengthening MSME branding through user-centered and participatory design methods.

Abstract

Latar Belakang: Sekolah menengah di Medan menghadapi penurunan minat belajar dan prestasi akademik pascapandemi. Deteksi dini yang akurat dan dapat dijelaskan dibutuhkan agar intervensi tidak terlambat. Tujuan: Mengembangkan dan mengevaluasi Early Warning System (EWS) berbasis Explainable Machine Learning untuk memprediksi (i) minat belajar rendah dan (ii) penurunan prestasi, sekaligus memaparkan pendorong risiko yang dapat ditindaklanjuti. Metode: Studi multi‑sekolah menggunakan data administrasi (kehadiran, keterlambatan, disiplin), jejak keterlibatan (proporsi tugas/PR tidak terkumpul, partisipasi kelas, log LMS bila tersedia), nilai rapor, serta survei minat & kesejahteraan 10–12 item. Dibandingkan tiga algoritma (Regresi Logistik, Random Forest, Gradient Boosting) dengan kalibrasi probabilitas; interpretabilitas menggunakan SHAP. Evaluasi pada set uji meliputi AUC, F1, recall-terkondisi (target ≥0,75), Brier, serta audit keadilan lintas gender dan status sosial ekonomi (SSE). Hasil (ilustratif): Gradient Boosting mencapai AUC 0,84 (minat) dan 0,82 (prestasi) dengan ECE ≈0,025 dan Brier ≈0,150. Fitur teratas: tugas/PR tidak terkumpul, skor minat intrinsik, presensi bulan sebelumnya, partisipasi kelas, dan nilai Matematika terkini. Perbedaan AUC antargender ≈0,02 dan F1 antar‑SSE ≈0,04. Kesimpulan: EWS yang akurat, terkalibrasi, dan dapat dijelaskan memungkinkan guru/BK memprioritaskan siswa berisiko dan memilih intervensi bertingkat (Tier 1–3) secara lebih tepat. Implementasi perlu disertai tata kelola data dan pemantauan berkala.
