This study aims to analyze the representation of social values in Hujan Bulan Juni, a novel by Sapardi Djoko Damono, through Thomas Lickona’s character education framework. A descriptive qualitative approach was employed using close reading and content analysis of the novel’s narrative, dialogues, and event descriptions. The data were analyzed through the stages of identification, coding, classification, interpretation, and conclusion drawing based on the three components of morality: moral knowing, moral feeling, and moral action. The findings reveal that the cultural conflict between Javanese and Minahasan identities, religious differences, and family expectations constitute the primary factors shaping the representation of social values in the novel. Moral knowing is reflected in the protagonists’ awareness of cultural norms, religious values, and social responsibilities. Moral feeling is expressed through anxiety, inner conflict, and emotional struggles arising from the tension between personal desires and social expectations. Meanwhile, moral action is manifested in respect for elders, commitment, compassion, and efforts to sustain interpersonal relationships. These findings indicate that social values in Hujan Bulan Juni function not merely as moral messages but as a process of character formation emerging through the interaction between individuals and social structures. This study contributes to literary sociology by integrating Goldmann’s concept of world vision with Lickona’s character education framework to explain the internalization of social values in the narrative structure of Indonesian literature.
