Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic has significantly impacted the financial sustainability of Islamic boarding schools (pesantren), which predominantly rely on student fees. To address these challenges, Al-Utsmani Islamic Boarding School in Bondowoso initiated an Islamic edupreneurship-based community service program focused on hydroponic cultivation. This initiative aimed to (1) enhance the skills of students and administrators in hydroponic farming, (2) promote pesantren economic independence, and (3) integrate digital marketing and agro-tourism strategies. Implemented using the Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD) approach, the program leveraged the pesantren’s existing assets, including human resources, infrastructure, and agricultural potential. As a result, students and staff who were previously unfamiliar with hydroponic systems acquired practical farming and marketing skills. The program not only fostered entrepreneurial capacity but also laid the foundation for sustainable economic development within the pesantren environment. Nevertheless, challenges such as limited funding and market access highlight the need for further institutional and governmental support.

Abstract

Human Development Index (HDI) is widely recognized as a key metric for assessing the overall quality of human development. Based on data provided by the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS), the HDI of Bondowoso Regency increased from 66.75 in 2023 to 71.22 in 2024. This study adopts a qualitative approach to examine the strategic role of GP Ansor Bondowoso in supporting public policies aimed at improving HDI outcomes. The findings reveal three key insights. First, there exists a collaborative governance framework between the local government and GP Ansor Bondowoso, facilitating joint efforts in policy implementation. Second, GP Ansor Bondowoso effectively leverages the Capability Approach to address multidimensional aspects of human development. Third, the organization functions as a civil society actor with substantial public trust capital, enabling it to mediate between government policies and community aspirations. This study contributes to the literature by highlighting the role of faith-based civil society organizations in strengthening public policy performance, enhancing human development outcomes, and reinforcing social capital within the governance ecosystem.

Abstract

This study explores the internalization of ukhuwah (brotherhood) values in enhancing the competitiveness and social harmony of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) within the Tenggerese community in Probolinggo Regency. The values of ukhuwah Islamiyah, wathaniyah, and insaniyah serve as the moral, spiritual, and social foundations that guide entrepreneurial behavior in navigating modern economic challenges. Using a qualitative phenomenological approach, the research collected data through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and documentation. The findings indicate that the internalization of ukhuwah manifests in three key dimensions: entrepreneurial spirituality, social solidarity, and economic collaboration. MSME actors demonstrate honesty, trust, and mutual cooperation as a distinctive work ethos that strengthens business networks and promotes social cohesion amid market competition. The study concludes that ukhuwah functions not only as a religious doctrine but also as a strategic socio-economic framework rooted in local wisdom and universal human values, contributing to sustainable business development and community resilience.

Abstract

Indonesia, as the country with the world’s largest muslim population and rich local wisdom, faces serious challenges in achieving sustainable economic development. Inequalities in wealth distribution, the exploitation of natural resources, and the dominance of a capitalist economic system often neglect the values of justice and sustainability. On the other hand, local traditions such as ”sasi” in Maluku, ”subak” in Bali, and ”gotong royong” in various regions reflect economic ethics that align with principles, including distributive justice (al-‘adl), sustainability (istidam), and the entrusted stewardship of the earth (khalifah fil ardh). This article aims to analyze the potensial integration of islamic economic values with Indonesia’s local wisdom as a model of sutainable development oriented toward global harmony. Using a qualitative approach based on literature review and contextual analysis, this study finds that the synergy between Islamic economics and local wisdom can provide alternative solutations to issues of socio-economic inequality, environmental degradation, and identity crises in the era of globalization.the findings of this study imply the strengthening of a velue-based economic paradigm that is not onlyrelevant at the local level but also capable of contributing to a more just, ethical, and harmonious global economic order.

Abstract

This research investigates the 'Matoron Roma' tradition as a manifestation of local wisdom in Bondowoso Regency, Indonesia, specifically examining its intersection with Islamic economic principles, social harmony, and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Utilizing a descriptive qualitative approach supported by interviews and participant observation, the study explores how communal practices foster social cohesion and economic resilience. The findings demonstrate that Matoron Roma actively implements Islamic economic values, including ta'awun (mutual assistance), shodaqoh (voluntary giving), and musyarakah (partnership), through the traditional framework of mutual cooperation (gotong royong). The study concludes that this tradition serves as a localized driver for multiple SDGs: reducing poverty by easing economic burdens related to housing (SDG 1); promoting social justice through non-discriminatory participation (SDG 10); building resilient human settlements (SDG 11); and fostering peace and inclusive institutions through strengthened communal brotherhood (SDG 16). Ultimately, Matoron Roma exemplifies how indigenous traditions can be transformed into sustainable development solutions, representing a vital partnership (SDG 17) that bridges religious ethics with global developmental objectives.
