Abstract

This research aims to reveal social criticism in the poem “Aku” by Chairil Anwar through a semiotic approach. The scope of the research includes analysis of the meaning of signs in poetry as a representation of social criticism. The research method used is descriptive qualitative, with data collection techniques through repeated reading and recording important quotes from poetry. Data were analyzed using semiotic theory to capture hidden meanings in the text. The research results show that the poem “Aku” contains five main aspects of social criticism: (1) rejection of social status through the metaphor of a “bitch”, (2) dissatisfaction with social conventions that shackle individual freedom, (3) feelings of alienation and outcast that reflect dehumanizing treatment by society, (4) the spirit of resistance to oppression, and (5) apathy as a defense mechanism against suffering. An interesting finding from this research is how Chairil Anwar uses dark imagery and sharp language to convey a message of resistance and dissatisfaction with social norms that limit individual freedom. Through the poem “Aku”, Chairil Anwar not only created a moving literary work, but also voiced strong social criticism of the injustice and suffering experienced by society during his time. This poem invites readers to reflect on social conditions and the importance of change in order to achieve justice and individual freedom.

Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk menganalisis transformasi narasi cerita rakyat menjadi bentuk visual relief di Candi Tegowangi, mengkaji nilai-nilai pendidikan dan moral yang terkandung, serta memahami relevansi fungsi sosial dan budaya candi dalam kehidupan masyarakat sekarang. Fokus penelitian ini adalah Candi Tegowangi di Kediri, Jawa Timur, peninggalan Majapahit yang memiliki relief cerita Sudamala yang memiliki makna spiritual dan budaya, serta fungsi sosial dan budaya sebagai tempat pemujaan dan interaksi masyarakat dari masa lalu hingga saat ini. Artikel ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif karena berfokus pada interpretasi dan pemahaman mendalam tentang Candi Tegowangi, relief, dan nilai-nilai budayanya. Dengan metode ini, makna dan nilai-nilai yang terkandung dalam candi dapat digali dan dihubungkan dengan konteks budaya dan sejarah yang lebih luas. Hasil penelitian ini mencakup latar belakang Candi Tegowangi, fungsi relief, transformasi narasi ke visual: teknik dan simbolisme, fungsi sosial dan budaya, relevensi di era modern. Candi Tegowangi adalah peninggalan Kerajaan Majapahit yang dibangun sekitar tahun 1400 Masehi dan pertama kali digunakan sebagai tempat pendharmaan Bhre Matahun. Candi ini bukan hanya sisa dari kerajaan Majapahit, tetapi juga memiliki cerita melalui relief-reliefnya, terutama cerita tentang Sudamala. Candi ini dulunya digunakan sebagai tempat berkumpul masyarakat, simbol kekuasaan, dan penghormatan. Candi Tegowangi digunakan sebagai tempat keagamaan (untuk membersihkan jiwa), media seni (melalui relief dan ukiran), dan sumber pengetahuan tentang budaya lokal tentang Kerajaan Majapahit. Saat ini, Candi Tegowangi adalah salah satu objek wisata cagar alam yang ada di Kediri dengan tujuan agar generasi sekarang mengetahui betapa pentingnya sejarah yang ada di salah kota yang ada di Kediri, cagar budaya, dan tempat ibadah Hindu.

Abstract

This article discusses the process of transforming the classical epic Ramayana into a modern comic titled Grand Legend Ramayana by Is Yuniarto. This study aims to examine how traditional stories can be transformed into modern comics in the manga version so that they are easily accepted by the modern generation. The approach used is the Reading Literature approach with visual and narrative text analysis in comics. The results of the study show that Is Yuniarto innovates in character design, setting, and story style by combining local cultural elements and popular visual styles. Thus, this transformation process strengthens the function of comics as a medium for cultural literacy while bridging the classical literary heritage and the aesthetic tastes of today's society. So that the Grand Legend Ramayana comic is a form of cultural strategy to preserve and modernize traditional values ??in popular media. Keywords: transformation, Ramayana, comics, cultural literacy

Abstract

This study analyzes the musicalization of poetry as a medium for social criticism, focusing on the song "Ora Cucul Ora Ngebul" by Jogja Hiphop Foundation, adapted from a poem by Sindhunata. Using a qualitative descriptive approach with content analysis, this research examines how poetic messages of poverty, hard work, and structural inequality are transformed into a contemporary musical form. Data collection was conducted through documentation and literature review, then analyzed thematically and intertextually. The findings show that Jogja Hiphop Foundation successfully reinterprets Sindhunata’s social criticism by integrating local language, traditional elements, and the global genre of hip-hop. Through music, the emotional depth and urgency of social critique are amplified, making it accessible and resonant with a younger, broader audience. The musicalization process does not merely preserve the core meaning of the poem but revitalizes its relevance by addressing ongoing issues in Indonesian society, such as economic disparity and injustice. This study concludes that musicalized poetry can serve as a powerful cultural strategy to express collective social concerns, build awareness, and inspire transformative reflection through contemporary media.
