Abstract

The aim of this training activity is to increase the knowledge and skills of Labor Union (LU) chairmen and members in Collective Work Agreement (CWA) negotiations. It is hoped that LU under the patronage of Sarbumusi can use more effective negotiation techniques in order to reach an agreement that benefits both parties, LU and its enterprise. This training was arranged to strengthen SP's position in negotiating with management and promote healthy and productive working relationships. The materials consist of the introduction to Collective Work agreement (CWA), its regulation, and negotiation techniques. The methods used were divided into two stages; preparation and implementation – presentation, discussion, case-study and simulation. The impact of this training was excellent because LU was provided with basic knowledge as well as the key to use negotiation techniques in pursuing the better prosperity for all workers, especially the members of LU. Abstract

This study aims to analyze the challenges and opportunities faced by trade unions in increasing the participation of Generation Z (Gen Z) as union members in companies. Gen Z, born between 1996-2012, has unique characteristics that differ from previous generations, including digital technology proficiency, high social awareness, and an orientation to work-life balance. The research method uses a qualitative approach with a case study at PT LEN Industri. The results of the study show that the main challenges faced by unions include the individualistic attitude of Gen Z, lack of effective socialization, and the negative stigma against unions as organizations that conflict with management. The study found that Gen Z tends to prioritize individual career development and avoid involvement in organizations that are perceived to hinder their career progress. Recommended strategies to increase Gen Z participation include: (1) effective digital socialization through social media platforms and webinars; (2) the implementation of a structured cadre regeneration program that focuses on the development of leadership skills; (3) anti-stigma campaigns with management to change negative perceptions; and (4) providing incentives in the form of training and skill development. This research makes a practical contribution to trade unions in designing recruitment strategies that are more adaptive and relevant to Gen Z's values and preferences, so that unions can maintain their relevance in the digital age and remain effective in fighting for workers' rights.

Abstract

This study explores the implementation of Flexible Working Arrangements (FWA) on employee engagement within a multi-generational workforce context in Indonesia. The research employs a qualitative approach through semi-structured interviews with 14 respondents comprising policy makers and employees from various generations (Generation X, Millennials, and Z) at a tech start-up company. The findings indicate that FWA, initially implemented as a response to the COVID-19 pandemic, remains relevant as a modern business strategy to enhance efficiency and productivity. Key benefits identified include improved work-life balance, cost savings in transportation and operational expenses, enhanced work morale, and better productivity. Generation Z demonstrates the most positive response to this policy, making FWA a crucial tool for attracting and retaining young talent. However, the research also identifies several challenges such as policy misuse by some employees and miscommunication in team coordination, particularly in complex projects. The study concludes that FWA effectiveness depends on clear and transparent policy definitions, effective two-way communication between managers and employees, and strong leadership support. Generational differences influence how work flexibility is utilized, with younger generations tending to use it for individual target focus or socialization time, while older generations leverage it for family responsibilities. This research recommends an inclusive approach in designing FWA policies that meet cross-generational needs to optimally drive employee engagement.
