Abstract

The current study aimed to identify the level of future optimism among students of the College of Education, specializing in Physical Education and Sports Sciences, and to determine the significance of differences based on specific demographic variables (gender, residence, marital status). Additionally, the study aimed to construct a psychological counseling program for the sample individuals. The research sample consisted of 39 male and female students selected purposively. The study employed descriptive and experimental methodologies, and SPSS (Statistical Package for the Social Sciences) was used to analyze the data. The results indicated a low level of future optimism, with no significant differences observed in the sample attributed to demographic variables or the effectiveness of the psychological counseling program. Based on the findings, recommendations, and suggestions were presented after the study. The study highlights the importance of fostering future optimism among university students, particularly in physically demanding disciplines, to promote their overall well-being and resilience.

Abstract

Background and Study Aim. Athletic performance is influenced by various psychological factors, including positive perception illusions that increase confidence, which in turn impact motivation and consistency of performance. Understanding how these illusions relate to performance will provide insight into effective psychological interventions for female athletes. This study examines the relationship between positive illusions and skill performance levels among female athletes at the Aphrodite Sports Club. The study also developed and validated two measurement tools: the Positive Illusion Scale (34 items, 5 dimensions) and the Skill Performance Test (SPT), which evaluates technical, tactical, and physical performance in basketball, volleyball, and futsal.Material and Methods. A descriptive correlational approach was used with 89 female athletes (basketball: n = 24, volleyball: n = 35, futsal: n = 30). The SPT consists of three phases: Preparation (4 points), Main Execution (4 points), and Optional Elements (2 points). Validity and reliability analyses confirmed strong content validity (CVR = 0.86), test-retest reliability (r = 0.89, 0.87, 0.88), and inter-rater reliability (ICC = 0.91, 0.89, 0.90). Assisted analysis using SPSS 26 Application.Results. Statistical analysis (ANOVA, t-test, Pearson correlation) shows that positive illusions are significantly correlated with skill performance (r = 0.62, p 0.001). Basketball players outperform futsal players (p = 0.025), while volleyball players show intermediate performance. Unrealistic optimism had the highest score (3.85), while positive future expectations had the lowest score (3.52).Conclusion. These findings highlight that self-enhancing beliefs can improve confidence, decision-making, and performance stability, and this study recommends integrating psychological training and standardized skill assessments into sports programs. Future research is recommended to explore the long-term effects of positive illusions on performance.

Abstract

Background. Endurance plays a crucial role in determining an athlete’s performance, especially in high-intensity sports such as volleyball, which requires repeated bursts of activity, rapid directional changes, and sustained physical effort. VO2max, an indicator of aerobic capacity, is a key factor influencing endurance levels. However, many volleyball clubs lack structured monitoring and training programs to optimize VO2max development.Objectives. This study aims to analyze the VO2max endurance levels of female volleyball athletes from the Nomen Nascio and Brojomusti clubs in Pontianak.Methods. A quantitative research approach was employed, utilizing a survey method with Yo-Yo Intermittent Recovery Test Level 1 as the primary instrument for measuring VO2max. The study involved 55 female volleyball athletes, consisting of 40 athletes from Nomen Nascio and 15 from Brojomusti. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics to interpret the VO2max levels among participants.Results. The results indicated that 57.5% of Nomen Nascio athletes fell into the poor category, while only 10% were classified as good. In contrast, the Brojomusti club exhibited better endurance levels, with 40% categorized as good and 6.7% as excellent. The findings emphasize the need for targeted endurance training programs to improve VO2max, particularly for clubs with lower endurance levels.Conclusion. Coaches and sports practitioners can utilize these insights to design structured, sport-specific training regimens that enhance overall athletic performance and long-term player development. This study contributes to the field of sports science by providing empirical evidence on the endurance levels of female volleyball athletes and highlighting the disparities in VO2max between different clubs.
