Abstract

This thesis discusses the arrangement of the song Tanda I Ma Au Buku Ende Number 171 for saxophone and violin instruments. This arrangement was worked on by the author by collaborating on a trio of saxophone, trombone and violin into one complete piece as a new composition and can be played in worship at HKBP Simanungkalit. The aim of this research is to find out the results of the collaboration on the arrangement of saxophone and violin instruments in the song Tanda I Ma Au. In presenting this arrangement the author made a change from the original tempo of 70 to a tempo of 60, namely in bar 14 or the second verse, which aims to give a grand impression and a deeper soul to the song. This research uses descriptive analysis methods with a qualitative approach. The work processes carried out are observation, documentation and recording of activities. The research results show that the song Tanda I Ma Au Buku Ende Number 171 is very dominant when accompanied by saxophone and violin which was arranged by the author.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the implementation of basic keyboard training for adolescents at Huria Kristen Indonesia (HKI) Padang Mengkudu Church. The background stems from the limited number of church music servants, who rely solely on one player, necessitating development and regeneration through music training for adolescents. The research employs a qualitative approach with a descriptive method. Subjects include music experts, church music servants, and adolescent training participants. Data collection was conducted through observation, interviews, and documentation. Data analysis involved stages of reduction, presentation, and verification. The findings reveal that the basic keyboard training was carried out in a structured and gradual manner over 16 sessions, scheduled four times a week. The materials covered instrument introduction, key-playing techniques, reading numeric notation from the Buku Ende book, basic chord exercises, and coordination between both hands. This training provided initial music experience for novice adolescents who had never played the keyboard before, equipping them with fundamental skills to perform simple songs in the church setting. Therefore, the implementation of basic keyboard training at HKI Padang Mengkudu Church proceeded smoothly and made a positive contribution to adolescent development and the sustainability of church music ministry.

Abstract

The aim of this research is to find out vocal phrasing techniques for good and correct sentence fragments in singing the song Arise And Shine Forth. This research uses qualitative research methods using observation, interviews and documentation. This research was carried out by collecting information through field research to obtain results which were processed into accurate data. The research process carried out as data collection is: videos and interviews. By singing the song Arise And Shine Forth, the author uses accompaniment via digital media, namely karaoke. The research results show that the process of implementing the vocal phrasing technique training in singing the song Arise And Shine Forth, namely practicing body posture, breathing, articulation and learning the phrasing of the song Arise And Shine Forth. In the score for the song Arise And Shine Forth, it is known that the chord is 4/4, 42 bars and tempo 68 (Adagio), the tempo tends to be slow but tends to be relaxed. This song is performed in a duet consisting of a man and a woman using different voice melodies. In bars 6 to 10 it is sung by women. Bars 12 to 14 are sung by men. Bars 18 to bar 28, the lyrics are sung together using different melodies. From all the observations and methods that the author has used while conducting research, the vocal phrasing technique in singing the song Arise And Shine Forth is very important. To obtain good and correct phrasing techniques for phrasing sentences, you need to practice and master good vocal techniques to be able to sing the song. There are several ways that must be considered to master good phrasing techniques, namely: practicing breathing, understanding the song being sung, understanding the purpose or message of a song and looking at the sentences in the song where they are divided.
